ChryDodRam has come a long way in quality over the last 3-4 years.

It wouldnt be possible for them to get worse! ;)

The box rot issue on Rams is far from a new problem. its been going on for YEARS, yet Dodge choose to ignore it. Personally Id wait and see for a few years to confirm they have their rust prevention up to modern standards.

But, if the diesel travels 30% further it's still cheaper. HS

If you don't factor in the upfront cost of the diesel or the higher maintenance costs, then yes, it is 1.8% cheaper to operate the diesel based on fuel costs alone. I don't think today's diesels will regularly get 30% better fuel economy than a gas engine though. Emissions equipment have brought the fuel economy advantage down some from that 30%.

Gimme something with a 300 straight 6 and a 4 speed with a nice granny 1st gear like my old F250! And 2 sticks for 4wd. I say that as someone who has just gotten a gremlin in his newer pushbutton 4wd system! And we have a snowstorm heading our way! The old systems werent "fancy"... the engines werent "powerful".. the trucks werent "fast".. but they definitely were TOUGH!

I knew a few guys who would not let go of those straight 6 trucks. For the day, they had good torque.

As long as possible, anybody really using 4wd p/u's off-road stuck with ordering manual stick controls.

Having some in-dash vacuum control go flaky 20 miles up some Hydro line cut makes for a really bad day.

My neighbor is in charge of maintenance for a factory and they spec their trucks (plow trucks in the winter, used for getting stuff year round) with manual transfer cases and manual hubs. They had enough of $1200 repair bills for transfer case motors or replacing vacuum lines to the front axle in a snowstorm.
They also will not buy another Dodge after the gremlins with their last 2500 (2010ish?). The 2000ish F150 it replaced had less issues with twice the miles on it.

Ford Super Duties come with manual override on the hubs of all of their 4x4 trucks, whether the t-case is manual or auto.

A good example of why I don't like bling.

Keep the front manual hubs greased, and not much to go wrong. Psycho off-road drivers excluded :D .

Unless I only drove to the mall (a big part of today's market), that feature alone would get me into a Super Duty right there.

The engine is nice and all....

But has Dodge figured out how to build a pickup that wont have the rear wheel arches blistered and rotting out after a few years? Seems almost every Dodge pickup I see that is over 4 or 5 years old is showing blisters over the rear wheels.. Whats up with that???

The new trucks come with full inner liners in the rear wheelwells. We shall see if it makes a difference. It very well could make it worse as we know.

VW has full liners on their Jettas and had a pad behind it (to keep it from rattling?) The problem was that the pad would get wet/dirty, rub the paint off of the inside of the wheel well, then cause it to rust from the inside out.

I haven't owned a Ram for decades, but didn't like choices in 2012, so tried one. I have been very pleased so far. No quality issues.

Don't know if this is typical or not. I don't plow with it, but it's not a grocery-getter. I use it to haul stuff & machinery back & forth between lake place & deer hunting place.

Buddy bought one of the new Ford F150's - it seems much nicer than the past models.

I drove Chevy's for quite awhile, until they fell behind competitors during their bankruptcy. I haven't driven one lately, but the still seem in "catchup" mode, and the prices are sky high.

I hope the Ram continues to stay intact for quite awhile.
