Diesel Pickups in the snow and those front hooks

I think you may be right, and you can only use below certain speeds. I have not paid much attention to the JKs, guess I am becoming like the older Jeep owners towards TJ owners like me! Can anyone confirm that the Power Wagon came with a diesel and manual trans for some years? That would be about the perfect newer truck for me....:licking:

No diesel in the power wagon and no manual trans for years now. You might find an older model twin stick. There are rumors but rumors only that the power wagon could get the new Eco diesel 3.0 that the half ton is getting. The aim reasons for no diesel in the power wagons are too much weight for off roading and the intercooler doesn't allow for the hidden winch behind the bumper.

I was using the E-Brake faithfully for a while. Had a brake job done not too long ago and was told all that E-Brake stuff has gone bad! JUNK! Just pure JUNK! Give me four dam drum brakes anytime!

Have you thought about 'line lock' for an e-brake? I have and I'm going for it. 2001 Jeep TJ 5spd

I'm not sure how the e-brakes work on a D-max, but on my Cummins, and a lot of Dodge and Chrysler cars, the e-brakes are a set of drum brakes inside the disc brake. They work well but when they go bad, you are doing 4 brakes on the back instead of two. I did the ones on my truck and it set me back $500 for everything new in back, pad, rotors, calipers, and all the e-brake stuff. I did all the work myself, I hate to think it would have cost me if I paid for labor, probably over a $1000.

As far as drums being better. I don't think so, they fade so much easier and I hate doing brake jobs on drum brakes. As a rule, parts are cheap though for drum brakes.

My brake job sot $1600.00 and that wasn't a whole job. I didn't put rotors in the front although they kind of needed it.

Brake Fade? What do you call almost driving through the back of your garage with disks? That never would have happened with drums. I rarely use my brakes. I'm not one of those many A -holes that drives on peoples bumpers. My Dad taught me always to look far ahead on the road.

What is a Line Lock?

Somehow my truck seems to be getting worse in the snow. Not even that much will cause the thng to shake violently!

Thanks to that one sugestion about the shackles on the hooks. It's the one thing I did not have with me, although I had thought they wouldn't work because I wanted to put the bolt through the hooks and they just don't stick out far enough for that. I can just barely manage to loop the shackle through the garbagy rubber surrounding the hook and then will put the strap through the bolt. So, that problem solved.

It may be time for shocks. How many miles on your truck?

A line lock is a device that locks the brakes. Its often used in race cars to lock the front brakes so the rear wheels are free to do a burnout to warm the tires.

I agree, drums suck. As for brakes I have bought 10 plus sets off a company out of Chicago called Brake Motive. 1/2 the price to my door compared to local shops even upgrading to slotted and drilled rotors and the stuff is top notch.

That's what I figured for the line lock. I tried dragging the brakes while in 4wd low to get maintained power to each wheel. Not sure if it worked or not, but it is awkward.

I have 108KM on my truck. Live on the backroads but try and stay out of the potholes.

BTW Ae you guys never going to go metric? We got shafted cause you guys said you would!

Find yourself a short bodied 4 cylinder, 4WD pickup. My Tacoma in 4th gear low range at 4000 rpm will pretty nearly plane over firm snow -- all you need is a clear place to stop. It takes light weight and low torque to run through snow successfully.

We were just kidding about the metric thing. We did a few road signs, and then lost interest.. So I would say no, we are not.:)
