Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Snow blowing set up for gravel road

I covered the cutting edge of my blower with a piece of pipe, did the same with the plow. The blower does not dig in and the gravel stays put. The pipe leaves a nice quarter inch of snow on top of the stone.

I set my shoes to keep the blower cutting edge as high above the driveway as possible. Then I adjust the top link to get the cutting edge where I want it. This winter I've been leaving about 1" of snow on the drive when blowing. I like that better than shaving off high spots and throwing gravel. :)

I think you are on the right track, just try a couple of adjustments to find what you like. The top link setting will change things more than you (I) would think given that the blower is resting on the shoes to begin with.

here are the chains I mentioned. I can't claim it as my idea - I learned about it here.

That's our neighbor.. Does not do anything good but boy is he fast.. The guy needs a hobby and how to use tractor lessons.. I have to stop before I blow a gasket.. The best thing is he does go on a lot of vacations..

the ground here in north idaho is doing the sdame thing. I used to be able to blow the gravel roads all winter without ever having to worry about loose gravel as they remained frozen. For the past few years they keep thawing all the time.

I used to blower yesterday to clear all the roads and left about 1" of snow on ground. Today it was 45F and the ground turned to slush. I had to put the plow on to move the slush.

so much for using the sleigh.

And yes, i used the 3 point toplink on my old rear blower for many years. you can turn up the cutting edge when used in combination with the skid shoes.

I use the pipe on or behind and lower than the cutting edge. It works good until the road is frozen solid then I take it off.
Another trick I have used is to take kids sliding saucers and put one below each skid shoe and bungeed in place - it acts like a snowshoe.

I find HST tractors much more difficult to back up with since your right foot is controlling the speed. To many years of looking over my right shoulder farming with the left foot on the clutch makes looking over my left shoulder even more difficult. I.e. darned hard to teach this old dog a new trick:D

I have exactly the same problem with my JD 2720. The more I try to turn my body to the right the farther away my right foot gets from the pedals. I once had the brilliant idea to simply use the cruise control but in their infinite wisdom JD designed the cruise to only work going forward. Ugh!

With my old '54 NAA I could let the clutch out and off I go. :)
