You may want to check the High and Low Setting on the Carb - I'm sure with it being a newer model chainsaw you will need the special adjustment screwdriver.

I think you can thank our illustrious EPA for that. They know what's best for us .

Kewl beans. This guy is so good at explaining things.

He's even got a channel for the French speaking Canadians in Quebec.

You can watch his other videos and learn a ton of stuff about fixing other machines around the home...
Snow Blowers
Chain Saws
or almost any 2 cycle equipment
Mowers of just about any type

Enjoy

Lately, it seems that all small engine carbs have plastic "limiter" caps pressed or molded onto the jet adjustment screws (EPA-required, I guess, to prevent us clueless consumers from adjusting anything so that emissions might result!!). I have found that these can almost always be removed with either some side-cutters, or a dremel cutoff wheel very carefully applied so as to cut only the plastic. Underneath the plastic, there has invariably been an old-style adjustment slot cut into an old-style adjustment needle. I had one little echo chainsaw that refused to idle and only required backing the Lo speed needle out a few turns and then resetting at about 1 to 1-1/2 turns to clear it out. Of course, I had to remove the plastic limiter to do so.

Now, keep in mind that all of the above is purely theoretical and in my imagination only, as I would NEVER actually modify any gubmint agency mandated "safety" features!

To remove the limiter caps, you can thread a drywall screw into the cap and then pull it out. Normally they are designed to slide in/out when the screw is in a certain position. I've done this on two saws I bought recently that needed adjustment. No special tools required.
