End of ethanol?

This is what I heard from my small engine repair guy....

I've found that most things people hear "from a guy" are either completely incorrect, or are at best only *kind of* correct....and then only after sorting out the missing details.

That may sound cynical, but my mobile work phone rings about a dozen times a day, with calls from people who have gotten themselves into a pickle and need help because of what "some guy" told them.

Then I get home and read my email or log on to social media to catch up with the latest "news and information", and see a lot more stuff that "some guy" told some "other guy"....and it somehow snowballs and takes on a life of its own as people keep "sharing it" and passing it along....

It would help with the discussion if you didn't bring actual facts into it.

There's a TV show called Ag Day - Farming News, Market Prices & Agribusiness for Farmers | AgDay - corn going to < $4.

Last summer they were bragging about record prices. Almost $7/bushel.

It's the BIG producer that drives the market, and the little 1,000 acre farmer that has to follow along or sink.

Here in Oregon to get this mandated rammed through the first time they had to put a sunset clause in the ethanol mandate and now that it is near all the tree huggers say it would be stupid not to renew it. I will not go down the list of extra costs, damage and increased food prices this has brought about.

Tree hugger here, at least the ones that are left after cutting for firewood, says, don't renew it. It's a huge burden on the environment and cost people too much.

and then there is the flip side....Stalin didn't believe Germany would invade Russia when he heard that from "some guy". I would agree that a lot is governed from "whence it came". It is at least a bit more creditable coming from someone who may get private notifications from large 2 cycle engine companies such as Husqvarna or Sthil before the general public gets info. That's why I asked the question in the first place in case someone else heard about it beyond article speculation.

if you would go to puregas.org you can find stations in your state still selling enthanol free fuel. in our area its more expensive than the enthanol spiked gas. i think some stations are calling it recreational fuel.

Unfortunately, it's not up to date. Be sure to call the ones listed to make sure they still have the ethanol free gas.

The puregas.org website listed several in my area having non ethanol gas. But when I called them to make sure, none of them had it. They did at one time but don't now. They said the refineries in this area stopped making it because of pressure from the gov.

im told that the enthanol is add at the terminals,claim is that the enthanol is to corrosive to ship in the pipeline.

Watched a tv program noto long ago about how Brazil uses ethanol (IIRC 100%) made from sugar cane and they import zero oil. I don't likethe ethanol either but what are they doing differnet? Does the government subsidize it? Are the carburetors for there market made to handle it? If it can be made from something we don't eat is it viable? Will that use space in the field for something we do eat? One thing is for sure, oil will not be around forever...
