Watched a tv program noto long ago about how Brazil uses ethanol (IIRC 100%) made from sugar cane and they import zero oil. I don't likethe ethanol either but what are they doing differnet? Does the government subsidize it? Are the carburetors for there market made to handle it? If it can be made from something we don't eat is it viable? Will that use space in the field for something we do eat? One thing is for sure, oil will not be around forever...
One thing they are doing different is that their government is NOT taxing ethanol as it falls in alcohol category. Refineries here mix it with regular gas to make it undrinkable to avoid taxes which is why it costs more IMHO here. At first I was excited that we were adding ethanol to the gas supply to reduce our oil dependence, but the production is not increasing, farmers not jumping at opportunity to make money, and we are creating more problems now then before..
