Excellent install! I like your bracket idea. If I had a piece of plate kicking around when I did mine, I likely would have did the same!

Where did you put the shutoffs? I didnt sweat it on mine because I have a set of hose pinchers to shut the hoses off when necessary.

Glad I was a bit of motivation to you:thumbsup:

Thanks!
I just threaded a 1/4npt petcock between the filter base and the hose barb on the inlet side, to stop the tank from draining. I thought about just using my hose pincher too, but I had a brand new valve laying around, & thought I might also use it when leaving my tractor outside to maybe confound anyone trying to take a joy ride.

Your location was what sold me. I also didn't like the other suggestions, & your hose routing made it simple.

Its hard to say really. Im just going by my gut feelings. Im 99% sure my problem was frozen filter related, however I was talking to the head mechanic at the dealer today and there has been some issues with the lift pumps on BX's. However when they go, he said they usually just stop working and dont restart. He agreed with me that it likely was/is a freezing/gelling issue with the primary filter, due mostly to it happening when the weather gets real cold.

As another defense against the recent cold, I installed a block heater in the tractor this evening. I didnt document it, but it was a pretty straight forward install.

Thanks for the ideas and inspiration. No factory job is perfect.
My BX came with block heater. No problems yet in 410 hours and a year of service, except that the factory rec for fuel filter is 50 hours. I lost f;low at about 350 hours and changing the lower primary took care of that. I could see brown solids and water in it.

Ill see what I can do. Ill have to redo the entire thread if I change photo hosts because all my links will be wrong. So far my PB pics have not come back and they should have by now. New month, new bandwidth allotment.

Ive been trying to find a better image host than Photobucket, that will restrict hotlinking by others and only allow the original uploader to hotlink, but so far Ive failed. Its not just this thread thats messed up, but all my threads on all other forums are messed. Thats a lot of fixing:eek:

EDIT: it appears that my bandwidth should reset tomorrow. If it doesnt, Ill take steps to find a better host and re-upload the pics

I like the way you used your head and was able to use existing mounting bolts, Good Idea.
Now you have to Wax that tractor:D

Thanks Scooby, your research motivated me to stop procrastinating & install a filter-separator worthy of these tractors. My welder is on the fritz, so I came up with a different bracket, but same location. I also thought it would be helpful to add a shut-off to simplify filter changes. Already saved me when I got a leaky bowl.

Oh and Thank you Scooby for the advice on my stack,
A few weeks ago I followed your advice. You told me to trim it so it won't catch water. I think it looks better this way also.
Thanks:thumbsup:

Thanks! Using the existing hardware made more sense than drilling and tapping in that location, particularly if the mount was still on the tractor.

Wax... Whats that?;)

You know, its only a small detail, but I think its a bit better looking too. Looks even more factory.

What was it again that you used for paint? It looks like a satin finish? Looks good though.

One last thing...

I really have to post up the the results of the last filter drain.

I dumped it into a mason jar, probably 1" total. About 1/3" maybe a bit more is water!!! Something for anyone considering this mod to think about.

I know, it's a no brainer using the existing bolts.

Maybe I missed it, but did you reuse the OEM bolts, or find longer versions due to the added mounting plate? Looking into doing a similar conversion. I like your mounting plate since I can make something similar, but don't have the equipment to make one like 4Shorts did.

Yup. OEM loader bolts.

No need for longer bolts because there is lots of stickout there to work with. Even after installing the bracket the bolts still stuck past their nuts. Just apply some red loctite to the bolts when reinstalling them.

Great, thanks. Makes it easier.
