RD, I couldn't tell you for sure weather a tree shear would cut dry oak or not. I think a fellow could rent one for a day or so and try it without spending a fortune. They are pretty common at most rental yards. The link above shows a shear similar to the one I used. As you can see, the shear grabs the tree so that it can't fall. You can place the tree where you want it. In your case, you could clip the top as far up as you can reach (10' or so) and place that in the trash pile, then clip the trunk and place it in the firewood stack. I would think that a 10' straight log would appeal to a firewood processor.

I looked at that saw before, but I was worried about spinning tracks on the rocky ground more than anything. Does that thing really work?

LOL you sure did. :thumbsup:

The saw worked well for us clearing a sandy 63 acres of Russian Olives. As i mentioned on HEF if youre not careful that saw may meet the welder a time or two. We bought two and never used one of them. Message me if you are interested.
