Bought a 2014 Silverado Z71

As you say a black vehicle looks great when first washed. I took a Black on Black on vacation one time to Florida in August. Talk about being in an oven. The AC just could not cool that thing when the exterior air temperature bounced around in the nineties. One thing about that trip that I profited from though, never buy a car with a vinyl interior, go cloth or leather.

Yes disadvantage in summer, advantage in winter. I agree with the vinyl and feel equally that way with leather. I was forced into loading up an xlt truck because the next trim packages forced you into leather. Some people including my parents love leather but not this guy. Cold in winter and hot in summer when you first get in.

Nice truck. Keep us posted on what you do and don't like about it.

I've always heard that the CC Silverados were made in Mexico, along with the 'burbans. Most other vehicles (cars) made in Canada.

...of course I could have heard wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

This is what I found on the internet as to where the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado is made.

"Silao, in Mexico makes and is the main plant for the regular Crew (full) sized truck (the ones with the full sized rear doors). Flint makes the HD/Duramax Crew (full) and Single cab trucks. FLint is overflow production for the regular Crew (full) cab trucks Like how the Equinox's main plant is CAMI and some are built in Spring Hill. Fort Wayne builds the X cabs. SIlao does import a good amount of USA made parts including Engines, transmissions, and stamping from plants in Ohio and MI for those full sized trucks"

Yeah the crew cab, their biggest selling cab, is made primarily made in Mexico. I wish they moved that assembly back to the US, but I'm sure they are doing it to save money and trying to get back on their feet. Also, when you see them cut back on production of the CC, it's always in the US plant, while they leave the Mexico plant running full steam. I don't like it, but I do understand it. That's what's nice about having so much choice, and it's a personal decision we each make.

That's a sharp truck by the way. I love black, but refuse to buy one because it would force me to keep it clean. :D

Nice truck, enjoy it! I have to agree on the 2014 being a very nice product. I was impressed when I looked at them a few months ago.

Next time I buy a truck, I will look for whatever color is closest to dirt, scratches, and the primer color. That ought to work well for my lazy car-washing habits. I'll even pay extra for the color if it means less car-washing!

Very nice truck. Love em in black. Thanks for your purchase. Hope it serves you well for many years to come.

You're right..I did drive a '14 before I bought my '13..The '14 was incredible as to fit/finish and general quality. They just made me a deal I couldn't refuse on the '13 or I'd have bought the 14..

How much extra fuel $$$ over the life of the port injected 13 vs the DI 14?

Congratulations, I have been looking some also. The prices are a bit of turn off to me when I compare to what we payed for a 2008 Dmax crew cab 6 years ago.

The choice at the time was between a 6.2 ('13) and a 5.3 (14)....Don't really care about gas mileage all that much. Got what I wanted.

Congrats on the new truck. I thought GM would never win you back after the 2011! Now to get Chris on board!

Those new trucks are sweet and the 2015 HDs are showing up at the dealers too. Wow!

I didn't think they would either to be honest! I can't emphasize enough the differences and improvements between my 2011 and the 2014. This is only an LT Z71 and it is MUCH nicer then my SLT. It was like going from a Camry to a 3 series BMW. When the 14's came out I thought GM only redid the sheet metal and did a few changes to the engines and called it "all new". Boy was I wrong. This is a 100% completely different truck. From the frame up. I have even looked for carry over parts from the previous generation but have yet to find any. The fit and finish is amazing and that's the first time I've said that about a GM vehicle in a long time. You really need to go sit in one and drive one and you'll see what I mean. Just peeking in the window and kicking the tires won't sell you on the truck. Like I said I did a complete 180 after test driving a few and I knew I was done looking and was going to buy that day.

Thanks for the eye candy & congrats! I love new equipment photos & comments.

What is GM's 'doublecab'? Does that replace the 'extended cab'? Does it have suicide doors like the Fords now?

Was the pricing so high you had to mortgage your house to get it?

I have a 2012 Ram 1500 SLT Big Horn Crew Cab 4x4. At the time in 2011, it was the best riding, best priced truck out there.

Thanks again for the info!!! :applause:

Congrats on the beautiful truck.................as for the some here bashing GM ........
So once again we see the exaggeration that Ford did not take or push for bailout money. They just asked for their 5.9 billion in January 2009 under other auspices. They all needed it, and they all make pretty good trucks.
Get over it ........even most all of your USA banks got bailed out...did you quit going to them in protest ?

I can't guarantee much but you can take it to the bank that no one in my family will own a GM. Even if it was better and cheaper I would buy Ford or Foreign.

As for banks I moved my money, car loan, and mortgage to a small Indiana based bank that did not take a dime. You can Google and see who took what.

When I bought my truck the other day I was just going to pay it off and be done with it. Got my friend to see what kind of financing was out there incase that made more sense. Ended up with 1.9% for 60 months but it won't take me but 3 or 4 years to pay it off since I can't stand payments. The three quotes that came back, two were from larger banks and the other was from little ol' local bank. I figured shoot might as well give them some business so I went with them.

I just traded my 2011 Silverado Z71 for a new 2013 Ford F150 Ecoboost. The Chevy was a very good truck and because of my work I took it places only tractors normally traverse. I will have to see if the Ford can tolerate the abuse I put the Silverado through.
Rollingsfarms, your truck looks great, hope it does well for you.

The double cabs have those "half doors" now. It's like RAM's doors on their extended cabs. I couldn't tell if the double cab has more room over the "old" extended cab or not (looked to me to be about the same room as my '04 Z71 that was an extended cab). Where I really saw the difference was the crew cab. Looked MUCH bigger then my 2011 crew cab. The funny thing is the F-150 crews I looked at had even MORE room then my Silverado. I thought I wanted an extended cab again, like my '04, but when I sat in both I knew I'd regret not getting the crew cab. As for bed length, I was able to put my Stihl pole saw in the bed of my truck today without it hanging over the tailgate(just lay it from corner to corner and it fits perfectly). The Tacoma I had just didn't have the bed room and payload I needed.

Sticker on this truck was $43,000. Keep in mind that this truck was a pre-price hike truck. Something about GM raised the prices and this same truck now stickers for like $45,000 I believe. They gave me $28,500 for my Tacoma with 22,000 miles on it. Crazy resale value on those things! Matter of fact, someone already bought the truck, didn't even sit on the lot for 24 hours.

Thanks! I looked at the F-150's very hard, but didn't test drive any Ecoboost equipped trucks. I had my eye on the FX4 package with the 5.0. Friend of mine has that exact setup and it's a great truck! My problem is the 3 closest Ford dealers are just flat out terrible. I try and try to buy trucks from them but it just has never happened. Either they act shady during dealings, or something. They're just so high pressure and I always feel like they're trying to pull one over on me. The ironic thing is they all have a very high rate of turnover when it comes to salesman. The guy you deal with today won't be there in a year or 2. It's not Ford's fault though, the trucks are fine, it's just that the dealers have cost them a sale. This is like the 3rd time they've done this. I always end up sitting at my friends desk who works at a GM dealership, and of course he gives me the most smoking deal you could possibly get, doesn't try to sell me a lot of crap or tack on extra fees and is always throwing in extras like 5 free oil changes, free steps (if you want them), $100 coupon on a Line-x bedliner, stuff like that . To be honest, the deal takes about 15 mins, we spend the rest of the time talking about sports, women, or something like that. The Dodge dealership is even worse then the Ford dealerships. Some shady characters working at that place, not to mention the dealership looks like a dump and dirty. I could drive an hour to another Ford or Dodge dealership I guess but I would hate going out of my way for warranty work if I needed it.
