Buying Advice Cabela's selling Compact Tractors

I think the distinction normally becomes one of service versus warranty work. In many/most cases, warranty work isn't billed at the shop hourly rate, it's determined by the manufacturer, and they aren't overly generous with the allowances..

Warranty is billed at shop rate. The difference is that reimbursements are based on a flat rate schedule that its often totally unrealistic. For example, customer drops of a tractor covered in chicken manure.. warranty is not going to pay for washing it off before its worked on. If a bolt breaks while removing a part and it takes a half hour to tap it out, warranty won't pay for it. Or a JR tech is put on a job and takes 6 hours to do a 2 hour job.. those 4 hours are lost.

IF this adventure for cabelas dont pan out, I DONT see TYM picking up the slack for warranties. Cause cableas isnt selling "tym" tractors. They are selling "cabelas" tractors.

Do you go to a yanmar dealer to get warranty work done on a deere?

Is kioti dealers doing warranty work on bobcat tractors?

If they cap the number of hours for a particular warranty job, or force you into a flat rate schedule that's unrealistic, it's not really billing at the shop hourly rate.

I think that perception comes from seeing list prices, but we all know that the only way to know the actual selling price is to sit down and get a quote, just as it is with any tractor deal.

I'm sure I will get flamed but Why oh Why does it have to be this way? What is wrong with figuring out the reasonable "actual selling price" and list it for that rather than the "MSRP is not sales price" "I have to talk to the manager", "You are killing me here but I'll see what I can do" BS - same as car dealers? Giving you a "deal" on a tractor and X implements vs selling them one at a time each at a higher price just means they are ALL overpriced from the get go or this "deal" would not be financially viable for the dealer. If the dealer says "That combination will cost X whether you buy them all now or over a 2 year period" the dealer makes the same amount of money without pressuring the buyer to finance something they can't afford to buy all at once (and may not even need everything immediately) and financing just jacks the price anyway.

There are no Cabela's anywhere near here so not an issue for me but I agree with those who say give this guy a break. He's "out" and if anyone here does buy one of those tractors, they can post thoughts which he can take back to the company. Perhaps he has already taken back the "constructive" parts of the criticism.

Come on dude, that's a certified cage-free Amish stump right there...totally worth a hundo!

No fossil fuels were used in the harvesting of this designer stump.

The "designer" stump looks like a "slice" of a hand hewn beam. Probably very old, therefore an antique, hand cut and dragged through the woods by oxen (though I bet fossil fuels were used to create the finished length of the piece shown for sale) and worth the price. Maybe I can slice up some I have that were removed from the house (~1850's, some rot to be expected!) and sell enough to buy a tractor

Ever wonder why more people "in the know" or factory types don't post on forums? Maybe TBN could turn this thread into a sticky so if anybody ever asks you could link them to this one.

That Tractor Guy started out with good intentions but like on every forum, some on here have gone WAY over the line. Rest assured, if Cabela's sees these posts, he will no longer be posting and on a personal level, why would he? Nothing like insulting a person you don't know. It's the exact reason I don't participate in forums that deal with my business, just as the others in the industry won't. There's very little upside and it's the reason most businesses forbid their employees or agents to participate in public forums.

Do you really think asking why Cabela's chose TYM over any other brand could be answered by him? I have never owned one but I know someone who has one that is very happy with theirs. For every problem on here with any tractor make there are untold numbers of the same tractors humming along happily. More than likely the decision to go with TYM was made long before The Tractor Guy was hired.

I'm sure Cabela's will be REAL competitive on pricing to kick start this venture and I personally like the dark green color. There isn't a Cabela's in my state so it's a non-issue but if I wanted a TYM tractor decked out a little differently, I would look at the Cabela's option.

Dealers selling all colors of tractors come and go, it's a fact of the industry. All machines eventually break, just look at the dealers who advertise all kinds of parts for all kinds of tractors.

Amen!. It is official now. Any factory rep posting on TBN will have the He!! beat out of him and his company. I am sure the tractor guy will really enjoy posting here in the future.

Good post. I'm not so sure Cabela's will be all that competitive in pricing, going off their MSRP, but all we can do is wait and see.

I think the Tractor Guy was pretty reasonable in his approach, but there are critics for everything, and anything, on an anonymous forum.

What I really don't get is why any of this would cause anybody to be upset. Cabela's is selling a product, and if you don't like it, you don't have to buy it....simple.

I don't see a problem with this thread or the range of comments. Tractor Guy got an earful of reactions at no cost. Some he can act on, some he can't. At least he learned what appeals to people (of whom 99% are experienced tractor owners), what turns them off, what they think about the pricing and service situation, and what they think of Cabela's in general. That is valuable feedback if used correctly.

"I don't care what the newspapers say about me as long as they spell my name right." Normally attributed to P.T. Barnum, but frequently debated.

Cabela's must love this thread!
