I have not looked into it yet, but is there a separate relief valve for the FEL as opposed to other hydraulics like rear remotes, and 3rd function?

I did some pressure testing with my 3rd function when trying to understand that OEM valve but I assumed the FEL had an independent relief valve.

In other words, where is the easiest place to read the max pressure for the FEL? Can I just plug into the 3rd function connector?

It's possible I am just expecting too much......but I would like to rule that out.

meant this as a reply to Toms post.

That is why I say I might be expecting too much. Hard to know how "stuck" the bucket is when digging sometimes. And there have been some rocks I had expected to lift with my grapple but couldnt. But depending on the shape sometimes since my EA grabble can only open so far the weight is a bit further out.

But there are times when I can't help but wonder if I shouldn't have a bit more lift and have been meaning to check it out.

Don't forget on large rocks, you can dump your grapple all the way down and lift from the top of large rocks. This places your load closer to your pivot point and gives a bit of extra lift power.
It is also a safe way to carry heavy loads just inches off of the ground, even if you rear tires are light, you are not liable to topple over.

Everything coming out of the loader valve is relieved by the same pressure-relief-valve, so plugging into it anywhere and activating that port fully should give you your maximum pressure. I believe yours should be 2560 psi

Here's a review on the 66" Wicked Grapple that we recently received from Daniel in Michigan:

"I ordered this to help with logs for fire wood. I cut the logs 8' long and then just grab unto them and take them up to the wood pile. We had an ice storm and a lot of branches can down from the trees in the yard. It would have taken me a week to clean it up. With the grapple I had it done in a few hours. Everybody that sees it wants one. I'm so impressed with it that I've just ordered a post hole digger and am thinking about buying the box frame disc harrow."

Impressive

I don't think my l5460 would lift a 1700lb log. The FEL lift ability is the one thing I am dissapointed with.

Bill,

That's me as well. I sometimes think the loader is weaker than it should be. I've told myself this is because I was used to the loader on my MF491, but after 120+ hours on the 4060 I'm not sure that's it anymore. I too thought about a "conservatively" set pressure relief valve. I've also heard that the geometry of the quick attach lessens lift capacity. It does seems logical since the QA adds length to the loader.

Kubota does rate their loaders at the pin right?

If you look at the size of the front axle on Kubota L series tractors, it is relatively smaller than the same on the Kioti DK40/45/50 all of which have a 2700lb capacity loader. The Kioti DK35 also has a smaller axles and it has a loader rated only for 1600lbs even though the rest of the tractor is almost a clone of the 40/45/50. I suspect that Kubota rates and builds it's loaders conservatively because they don't want to overload the front axle. Surely Kubota knows how to build a higher capacity loader so there must be some engineering reason they don't put them on the L series.

About a year ago as this new lightweight grapple was being released,(298 entries ago) EA told TBN readers that a root rake grapple for skid steers was just around the corner....I checked their website, but cant find the "Wicked" series for Skid steers. Anybody know what happened??

I think the L60's come standard with the SSQA so that is factored in to the lift capacity unlike the L40. If that log I lifted was 1700, then the QA on the loader is 100lbs and the grapple is 450lb I was lifting 2250lbs, not bad for a loader that is rated 2480lbs at the pins not including that the SSQA moves things farther out. That whole tree I picked up in post 280 was way heavier. Since it was hollow up about 5' I can't estimate the weight. I have a couple more logs I am going to cut pieces off of one them till I can pick it up then figure out what the log weighs to see what I can lift. I'm thinking Kubota may be conservative on their numbers.
