I can't even claim it as an original. A friend of my wife's is a farm boy from BC, he uses it almost exclusively.. proper pronunciation is T-LAR (tee-lar), or so I'm told. It usually works for me, although there have been a few occasions when I've come to the realization that "that's not gonna fit, no way, no how". Usually as the last weld is cooling.

Sean

that is why they make grinders, and slit disks.:)

Interesting. What he didn't learn is what caused the shaft to disconnect in the first place. I really doubt the "sapling took it off" theory. Much more likely, since he didn't know how the collar worked, is it was never correctly installed and just worked itself off, seems to me.

That was my guess, too, he never shoved it far enough to get the balls in the groove.
I always pull back on the coupler to make sure it is latched as the last step.

One thing that I've noticed that nobody has reminded you of is that if you, with the engine OFF, engage the PTO the spline IT will not turn. Being able to twist the PTO shaft without having to wrestle the power shaft at the same time certainly makes connecting a bit easier. Notice - I did not say EASY... just easIER.

I have not read the entire thread but I will add this about connecting the PTO shaft....I have found using a long bungee cord to support the PTO shaft while I connect to the spline eliminates me having to strain in an awkward position to hold the shaft up and level while pulling on the collar or holding in the pin and shoving....it is just easier that way.....

I think that depends on the make and model of the tractor. On my JD 870 it turns fine whether the engine is running or not.

Several posters have mentioned that. You guys must be working with heavier equipment than mine. I've never had any trouble lifting the shaft up by hand and fitting in on the splines.

Well I have learned a lot here on this thread about changing tractor implements. Thanks to all for the input. :)
I will be ordering the newer T-LAR software - version 2.0. ;) Until then I will probably use my old method which is to make sure there are no witnesses around. Then drive over to the house and tell everyone it was easy, no problems.

I am only installing LED bulbs in my lighting fixtures. LEDs cost more initially but I will not be on a ladder changing light bulbs high up again, in this lifetime, after the LEDs replace the last filament bulbs. One ladder fall can be a major life style altering event. There are LED replacement bulbs now for almost everything except fan light bulbs and three-level-intensity bulbs.

It is time to do some search and research. Both types are available.

Even dimmable LEDs.

Getting the pins lined up is pretty simple, so I never felt the need for a quick hitch system. It's sliding the driveshaft onto the PTO that kills me.

Just the opposite for me...only problem I had with the PTO shaft was getting my hands inside the shield on the back of the tractor. Ended up taking it off. I'm all for safety, but sometimes they just don't think when they put these shields on.

OTOH, getting the pins lined up on the Kioti is a major PITA. I don't know if the angle on the arms is wrong so they don't square up well or what...never had that problem with my old JD750.
