I know tractor weights because the OEM's publish weights and I know what size tires they have and used the fill tables on Rim Guard's web site to determine ballast weights. Loader with bucket weight is an educated guess.
Back to my orginal question you don,t have a tractor purchased yet correct? What type tires are you going to order,R4,s or R1,s?That would make a difference on weight with rimguard, correct?

Yup, tire type makes a difference, but I already did the math. You can look up weights using Rim Guards tire and wheel size tables on their site.

Guess we can,t help you much when you avoid the tractor question all together.Maybe my math is bad, usually I buy a tractor first before I worry about buying a brush hog?LOL.

I asked for help with pricing Woods rotary cutters, not for sizing a tractor.

I really don't understand how some of these guys run their business or price their stuff. A few years ago I was looking for a trailer so I emailed about 6 dealers within a 90 mile radius and ask them for their best price on the EXACT same trailer. The email said I want your bid on a year, make, model trailer for a cash (no credit card fees/financing required) sale. I will pick the trailer up within 30 days and will send you 1/2 of the purchase price by check upon acceptance of your bid. The bids ranged from $2200 up to almost $4000 for the EXACT same trailer, same manufacturer and same specs. I went with one of the lower ones but not the very lowest because the distance became a factor.

This was a slam dunk, easy sale they spent almost no time on since I did all the research myself. I have since been back to my dealer of choice for a few other things so he made a little money each time just for being reasonable with his profit margin.

i understand. I just ordered a 18' equipment trailer with a 2' beaver tail, flip-up, spring loaded ramps, rub rail, stake pockets, with a 10,000 pound jack and offset handle in red (to match all my other red PJ trailers) and one cat quoted me $6600 like he was doing me a favor, where as others came in at $5600 and the guy who sold me quoted $4700. Same trailer, same specs, not in-stock, must be ordered, give me a marketable quote and you get a sale kind of a deal.

Renting would kill me. In addition to nearly a mile of road to build, I have 30 acres to selectively clear. Thus among other things, the tractor will be needed to run a rotary cutter as well as a root/rock grapple to clear the land. The tractor will be a 60hp HST Cab on. The tractor alone weights 4600 pounds, add 1000 pounds for a loader, and an additional 1550 pounds of rim guard in 4 tires and the tractor is at 7100 pounds, basically a light utility weight but plenty to manhandle the rotary cutter. I've been told that a HST with just under 50 PTO will be able to run either the BB6000X or the BB720X. However, my plan is to consult with the manufacturer's rep after the engineering inspection comes back with species types to see if a less expensive rotary cutter will do the job.

Yes I agree. The tractor will handle the extreme 5 footer or 6' medium duty version. From what you saying you need to cut (up to 4") i think you should do the woods bb7800x. 4" hardwoods is nasty stuff for sure. If its all pines then possible the 720x will be ok. On another note have you considered just buying a older small dozier or contracting someone to do it? I just spent $2800 and had someone take 30 acres and dozed it out. Just a thought.

If you try to cut alot of 4in hardwoods it will be very hard on tractor pto and bushog. look at any dealer that sells right of way cutters and look in their shop at all the tractors getting pto's replaced. brown tree cutter is the best bushog for that but hard on pto's

I was gonna suggest a brown, but you beat me to it. There good, it is what our local electric coop uses on there rightaways, I have seen them shred some pretty big stuff! LUTT

Yes Brown is the best. But are you guys speaking of the 600 series rotary cutter or the new tree saws? That cutter is too much for the proposed tractor and is very expensive. The new tree saw maybe actually what he needs. Forgot about those. Take a look.
