I'll pick up an infrared thermometer. What would be a safe operating temperature? What would be high enough to shut down?

About 175 to 200 degrees.

I still do not understand why that coil should cost $700 .

To me that coil or just about any coil for solenoids is just a bunch of wire wound around a core which slides over a steam connected to a spool that will move when the coil is energised.

A proportional valve just moves the spool in small increments.

By matching Opposition Spring Force to Solenoid Force, Proportional Spool Movement is obtained.

With regular solenoid coils, they warn about over tighten the coil. Especially those that screw into the valve body.

How much was the whole valve including the solenoid. Did that include any electronics outside the coil.

I bought the entire system for $8000.00. That included the laser transmitter and tripod, the laser receiver which mounts on a mast on the blade, the control box which mounts on the fender of the tractor, and the valve/solenoid, and all the wiring that goes with it.

I called my brother who is a John Deere tractor mechanic, and has been for about 30 years. He suggested that I try to find a tube to stick into the dipstick hole and run it up onto the ROPS or somewhere to be used as a vent. He also said I need to keep an eye on the temps of the oil. I did change the oil and filters on the Kubota this week too.

Which brand and equipment did you buy if you don't mind my asking?

I am just about ready to order a two receiver system in the next few weeks and was planning on the Topcon RL200 2s laser, system 5 control box and the lsb 110w receivers. I am waiting on the valve to be built and shipped now, bought a dual spool valve (Danfoss) proportional control with relief st to 1100 psi, 6 gpm flow to the cylinders, voltage control. I went with the PVG 32 series as it is supposed to allow me to adjust both cylinders at the same time, not sure about that we will see. I ordered this from Sunsource in AZ for about $2300 + shipping. So far the hydraulic valve was the hardest part to shop for very difficult to compare pricing and features on.

I have to have this operational by the middle of June to grade about 15 acres. I am open to any help or useful comments about the electronics as this stuff is costly and I don't wan't to make any purchasing mistakes.

Jenkinshp. you have some fine parts there.. if you want help with this project this forum is not the place, you may want to try this.
Fluid Power Forums

most of these people are in the industry and if your lucky you may get to talk to some of the engineers that work for danfoss...

And after you find out everything you need to know from the forum that glastron suggested, you'll bring your buildup and knowledge back here, right? You did already bait me in when you mentioned it before, so I'll take that as a promise. :)
