Go Away GM

No more gm of any kind for me. Bought my wife a new 09 Impala, with 25 miles on it. I thought this is the last car I will have to buy boy was I wrong. 6 times it went in with leaking intake gaskets, the last 2 times they also changed the head gaskets. Talking with the dealer they said "Thats the way they build them anymore" Had no problems with the dealer they tried fixing it every time, gm just kept telling them to keep changing the gaskets. Traded the car in with only 20,000 miles on it. We liked the way it rode and drove, but just could not trust it. Bought a ford and I'm not looking back no problems of any kind so far.

kinda like oil usage specs on the 5.3

sure.. it's fine to burn a quart ever thousand miles...

really?

I have 70 year old antique tractors that don't use oil like that. ;)

Some folks seem to think the operator of a car has no responsibility for acting safely in an emergency situation. It is all the manufacturers fault whenever a mechanical failure happens and they must pay outrageous sums of money to the affected. It is time we got back to accepting some responsibility for our own actions rather than always blaming someone else.

Does the manufacturer have to spell out that you shouldn't hang an anvil or similar heavy objects from the key ring or it may cause adverse effects? Even so, the key turning off the engine should not be a life and death situation and could be safely managed.
I didn't see anyone wanting to lynch the TOYOTA management folks when they blatantly covered up the brake fault with their cars and refused to make a recall or is it just GM that should be held accountable for any and every item. What about the switch manufacturer, should we shut them down, lock up their managers, throw them in a dark dungeon?

I don't think any company knowingly builds something that will injure or kill someone, but when it happens they all try to protect their interest. That is why we have courts and lawyers to prey upon the injured and make more money on the deal than the injured party, but that is just my opinion.

Yes, It's become a society where so many rely on others to keep them safe no matter how negligent they are. Call me old fashion but I rely on nobody or nothing except myself to keep my family and I alive.

I heard on the radio, a lady backed over her kid and is now suing the federal government for not mandating backup camera in all vehicles. She said, "had they done this my child would be alive today". I say, don't trust any cameras, get off your lazy butt and get out and look before backing. Now because of irresponsible people the camera will be mandated by 2018.

We constantly strive for absolute safety in these autos and with more and more safety features comes more malfunctions, more recalls and more money. Remember there is no price limit for safety....or is there?

If people don't think their favorite car manufacture will have any recalls..... lol.... they are coming. Recalls will be out of control soon.

I kind of think the media picks up what recalls or flaws they want to pickup and run with. There have been worse problems with vehicles that go unspoken of. Then you have the run away toyotas conveniently when GM needs to be painted as a good guy while suckling the tax teat. Then you have the operators... I have had a few situations where the go pedal sticks or complete loss of brakes and I didnt have to get the phone book out to find the nearest trip and fall lawyer.

Like Chrysler's recent 655,000 model recall.

If they had warned people to not put lots of keys on their key ring, that be one thing and I won't excuse anyone who was driving unsafely or DUI but to excuse GM after they knew about the issue for 10 years.

Pay up big time.

That is a very selfish wish you have there.

GM employs over 200,000 people in 37 countries.

I don't see them disappearing but if they did.. The other mfrs would pick up the slack and would need people to fill positions. It's supposed to be survival of the fittest. Not survival of the company who greases the most politicians. .. They ( GM) make a ****** product and have for some years. They need to man up

I've got a 85 and 91 truck and don't have anything bad to say... they provide excellent service and very reasonable to operate. I was there when both were bought new.

Never had anything on my car key ring except the keys for the vehicle I was driving... I own many vehicles and each has it's individual ring with either a single key or in the case of my Chevrolets... a door and ignition key.

My "House" Key Ring is much heavier and the there is my "Work" key ring which is even heavier.

Some of my co-workers have easily have 10 to 15 keys, charms, family pictures, gifts rings from the kids and even remotes for several cars on a single ring... boy are they in trouble when they lose their keys!!!

While its a really nice social experiment to try to save jobs, the basics of economics can never be outrun. GM success or failure isn't based on goodness or badness, its based on whether or not they can sell cars at a profit. When they can't they will go under. It was a social experiment to bail them out when they couldn't make a profit; gov intervention in business. The best way to bankrupt a country is to allow it to intervene in the affairs of ailing businesses in the interest of the state. Russia is the perfect example. The downfall of communism was that there was no money in it.
