Go Away GM

I checked our Maxda3 and you can turn the key to off position and lose power assists but the car is very drivable.

I truly believe we are now in a society where people just will not ever accept accountability for their own negligents.

Yup, I've had numerous vehicles shut off while driving over the years, never had a crash. In fact, I tried this out in a couple of my vehicles yesterday. Going down the road at 55mph and shut it off. Steering was still very easy until you got down to almost a stop and the brakes had one good stop in them if you did it soon enough. Even after all the engine vacuum was gone, pushing the brakes a little harder and the using the e-brake were enough to stop the vehicle pretty quick.

I guess people just don't have any common sense about how to handle a problem anymore. The auto manufactures aren't helping either, now that there is traction control, lane change assist, parking assist, braking assist, crash avoidance, etc etc it has taken all the human aspects and skill of driving away. You can basically just be a little zombie sitting there and poke the gas and steer and the car does the rest. It's no wonder people don't know how to 'drive' anymore.

I agree, GM should accept responsibility for their actions.

I've read this whole thread and nowhere did I see a post mentioning that the workers were any way responsible.

My uncle still receives a nice retirement from GM 26 years after retiring at 48.

Agreed and good for your uncle. Also I love your signature, its perfect. Amazing some people think differently.

Chevrolet has some other bright spots like the Corvette and even the Camaro
No personal attack intended or implied. I think the Corvette and the Camaro are the two worst models that Chevrolet offers. I base that on having friends that own each. The Corvette has cost Chevrolet millions of dollars over the years trying to keep an "American Heritage" alive. The Camaro is the worst of the retro cars, i.e., Mustang, Challenger, Camaro. As to GM, all makers have recalls, all makers use cheap outsourced parts every chance they get. Where I draw the line with GM is when they started trying to find legal loopholes thru their responsibility with the "before bankruptcy, after bankruptcy" arguement. That's definitely intentional to avoid paying.

A few months ago I was on I-35 headed to Des Moines. I caught up to a Semi that was driving on the shoulder "rumble strip". As I passed him I noticed he was reading the newspaper. Using the rumble strip to drive straight.

My Dad loved his Buicks and I inherited his last Buick ('71 Le Sabre) along with 200 shares of GM stock. Well the bankruptcy deal cost me about $5000 that was a donation to the GM company. Maybe they were "too big too succeed", I don't know. Over at the "Pickup Truck Forum" some say that GM stands for "General Morons". Anyway, I've never bought a GM product and won't now for sure.

I was not aware the Corvette line has yet to show a profit.

My 62 is seldom driven... yet, everytime I do take it out people ask to buy it.

Also had a 68 Z28 that I sold to help for school... someone flew out from the East Coast to pick it up.

In my case it is probably a moot point since I'm not a new car buyer...

There are many examples of companies delaying action... Ford Pinto gas tanks, Firestone 500 tires, Dodge Omni torque steer, Audi and Toyota stuck accelerators...

Just about every ford truck built in the 80's could be started with a screw driver after a few years of use...

I agree that most of us could steer the car to the curb with no problem but there were young inexperienced drivers who died.

I won't get into the speed and alcohol in their system..........and the parents solely blaming GM.

It's that knew for 10 years and did nothing to correct it that I have an issue with.

Also, does anyone remember Ford's "park to reverse defect" ? It involved Fords made from 1966 to 1979 and killed 98 people. Ford's "fix" was mailing the owners a warning label.

I know some of you don't like GM and I know they have a serious issue that needs resolved. How ever Ford,Dodge, and GM helped get this country to where it is today long before Toyota, Honda,Mazda etc. ever set a tire on US soil. Most of my family has owned all US brand cars since I was a child, Ford,Dodge, and GM. About all of them has been a good vehicle over all. Some of my family even retired from GM, and Ford. There is nothing wrong with a foreign car as I have been around many of them and from what I see they have allot of the same issues American cars have. It's sad in my opinion what has happend to the big three auto makers. I know myself I have no reason to switch from them at this point in time in my life. Also I see allot of comments about how Union workers are paid huge amounts of money and don't do nothing. Funny some of my family members where there for almost thirty years and just got up to $20.00 per hours when they retired. As a matter of a fact I was told as a child to never work for a auto manufacture. Then you here about retirement pensions. Yes they do have a retirement pension for the employees and in my opinion they deserve every penny. I know many people that have started a job in a factory and walked out the same day because they could not cut it. Secondly just like Social Security was to be set aside for the tax payes the same thing was suppose to happen for the auto manufactures employee pensions. The money went into the accout and was set aside for the employees. Problem is the companies started dipping there hands into money that was not theres. People can say what they want but a huge amount of the population will have a big problem in the US of trying to retire in the next 30 to forty years. They will be allot of people working when they get old because they have to work not want to work.

You are correct, many more people will be working till the day they die. Primarily because the house of cards that is our financial system is a ticking time bomb.
