Sorry to hear the results of your visit to the dealer. Before you head home. Consider taking you motorhome to the factory. Most people get very good service from the factory repair centers. Another choice is Lippert in Elkhart, IN.
Visiting the factory manufacturing can be very entertaining.

This was going to be my suggestion, don't program PA in the GPS, program the factory. Just drop it off and tell them you want it fixed or a new one

Per: Service Winnebago's "Service Administration" number is: (800)-537-1885 and you can call them to schedule a time to bring it into the factory for service.
I would do that and see if they can get you in. You might be able to get one of the ones that would otherwise end up on a new RV that way.

Daugen - I'm sorry to hear about the latest challenges on your trip.

You seem philosophical enough, and, like many of us, old enough to appreciate what real problems are in life - RV accessory motors aren't one of them.

That said, Winnebago has really dropped the ball here.

To help in terms of modern social support..... If you are on-board with this Drew, perhaps one of the mods can retitle this thread "Winnebago (model name) x months old, can't be fixed", or some other suitable title.

As we saw with the infamous Pallets thread, TBN often hits high, or # 1 on Google searches.

Plenty of people on here are following this already.... I'm betting we can get the numbers higher soon enough.

Rgds, D.

Say the word and the thread title can be "Winnebago Itasca 27N, 10 months old on its first big trip, broken and can't be fixed"

bummer.

Can't believe in this day and age they can't get a replacement motor for something that's mass produced.

I really hope something works out. You put so much work into planning and prepping for this adventure. Your humorous description and photos of your daily life on the road and in the RV engaged many of us. I'm glad my wife and I got to meet you while you were in Virginia.

I mentioned a long time ago on this thread that the 2nd largest RV dealer in the country was in my county along I-95 (McGeorge RV Virginia RV Dealer Offering New and Used Motorhomes, Fifth Wheels, Travel Trailers and More) and I believe the largest is near Tampa. Maybe a call to these two dealers could turn up a motor in one of their service departments and could be overnight shipped to you. Or tell me the part number, and I'll be glad to stop by McGeorge.

Best wishes

guys, good morning. And thank you for all your well wishes. Yes, this is pretty hard to imagine but I do understand it. Not only my rv but two others on this trip all had the identical problem of the same company's slide mechanism jamming on one side (out of synch? who cares....). So here is a wonderful text book business model where a fine company completely gets into bed with a sole source supplier, whose products are simply failing left and right, and I bet for manufacturing reasons because if the motor failed on three different rv's that I saw with my own eyes, then it's not my model.

As far as I know, there is only one other major mfg of these slides, and I think they are for larger motorhomes. I believe the problem happens when the slide is fully extended and the motor/track design just struggles to pull the slide back in, and one of the motors doesn't keep up. There were scorch marks on one of the molex plugs, the one I couldn't find...so this was not software at all as they first told me, it was a stressed motor that either failed or sucked so much juice it fried itself.

And that controller I could not find, and spent literally hours on the phone with Winnebago about?
The one that was in plain view and right up on the ceiling of the compartment? No....of course not, hidden behind a circuit box panel that took a variety of screws to unbolt and get behind. Totally hidden from sight and not at all where it was supposed to be. Oh,production variances they told me.

Yes, when I get home I will get acquainted with CEO Randy Potts and he will get an earful.
I think he is already getting actually. Calling Winnebago customer service, I was put on hold every time, no one ever picked up in less than five minutes, and then they disconnected me. And they did the exact same thing to the service manager four times. Put him on hold and then disconnected him. He said he had never seen anything like it.

Telling someone that the oem part is not available, and there is no eta on when it will be is just nonsense. There has to be a reason or explanation given, not just oh so sorry, just park your motorhome until we figure it out.

And yes, I was headed to Winnebago for a factory tour. No more. Forest River, Jayco, there are many other fine brands out there, but Winnie was the "safest". Hah. So at some point I think Mr. Potts will read this, I will certainly paste this URL to my letter and suggest he see what wonderful PR his company has generated.

Yes, the right thing to do is for Winnebago to take this rv back and give me a credit towards a new one, but what if the new one has the same faulty motors in it? Why would I want to own it? Why would I want to buy from a company that totally understaffs their customer service dept so that both customers and dealers get crappy service? And a company that promises what they won't even lift a finger to deliver. They talked the talk and didn't walk the walk.

There are no parts to be had, I'm sure they have serious design/warranty issues with what is in the pipeline, or was in the pipeline, and I really do think the "new and improved" motors are going to the assembly line. If this was a car, there would be a huge recall and investigation. Since this is an "unfinished vehicle" there is nothing other than the reputation of the company on the line.
Mr. Potts, how do you think you are doing?

well, enough of that, really. I'm headed out early this morning to Chattanooga TN, hope to get in before it starts raining too hard. And I'm going to take my time too. No sense in rushing home.
I've had a good month on the road, yes I left one month ago today, and I've had a wonderful time in that month. That's what I'm going to remember. And I will do it again...

That's an excellent way to lose customers and dealers (especially with a crowd as fickle as the RV crowd tends to be)...
