If you want to have a little more fun with them, ask them what that XX liter engine is in cubic inches. I haven't found one yet that can tell me. Note: 61ci in a liter.
Maybe you are the only buyer left who still thinks engine displacement is measured in cubic inches. Lol. HS

One of the issues about online vehicle pricing is that is mainly applies to NEW vehicles and not used ones. Last salesman I dealt with buying a new 2004 Buick was dead honest with me and very straightforward BUT he admitted that was because he knew what I knew about what I wanted, and he came straight out and told me he really liked the buyers who were able to make GMS and GMO purchases because that made his job easier.

Although I started this thread, sometimes I feel guilty about bashing car salespeople because: When you buy a 5 liter box of wine at the party store, do you know how much they paid for it? When you buy a new washer and dryer from Home Depot, do you know what they paid for it? And in the case of the Franzia, are you permitted to dicker with the counter person? Nope. But car salespeople are fair game because it's "If I don't try to bleep you, you will try to bleep me...."

Another option is to lease with no money down. Nicely equipped F150's are leasing here in Toronto for less than $400 per month for a 2-year lease, and best of all, you get a new truck every couple of years. The depreciation on a nice F150 Supercrew 4 X 4 is certainly more than $400 X 12 mos. = $4800 per year, and don't forget you save the taxes on the "residual" value at the end of the lease, because you don't buy it. These figures are VERY rough, but if you consider a residual value of, say $25k, in Ontario you will have saved $25k x 13% = $3250 by leasing instead of buying. Works for me - anyone want to buy my current 2010 F150? (I'm drooling over the new 2014's.)

50 and a wife = must still have money and don't want to haggle .... want luxury car and all the trimmings ....

20 and fresh off the street ? = green , probably not a lot of money , box stock vehicle , few extras .....

You pretty much hit that on the head.

One of my brother in laws is a car salesperson. Does actually know the product(s) he's selling. Interesting that when a customer got fed up with all the cr*p being spewed by the sales manager and walked out my brother in law was sent to get them. Customer turned and said "I don't play this game any more", He said neither do I but the office does and they are the ones who tell me what to do. He turned that sale around through product knowledge. Women bought a new truck with all the features (including an 8.1ltr or 496ci engine) at a fair price for both the customer and auto sales place.
Best
Chris

Car dealers love leases. It gives them more ways to extract $$$$. Most people have no clue what they are paying for the car or what the interest rate is. It's a good way for people with no $$$ to get into more car than they can afford. Like renting an apartment or house.

Hey check...why are you drooling over the 2014 F-150's....? Hold out for the new and much improved 2015 model with the aluminum body....NEWER....BETTER....LIGHTER....MORE BLING....

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your post. How would a know-nothing newby sales person influence your buying a BMW and not a Mazda?

Sorry, I did not intend to imply a relationship between my two statements.

My buddy gives me that same advice almost every day. However, I just know that those new 2015 models are going to be hugely more expensive than the 2014's, and frankly I don't see that much difference, other than the increased payload.

What is new and improved on the 2015's, such as 360° cameras, will probably cost about two arms and three legs.

I suspect 2015 Fords will have significant price increases.

The new 2014 Silverados had substantial price increases. Sales slowed for a few months but now are picking up quickly at average final transaction prices $5,000 more than similarly equipped 2013's.
