Finally replaced old truck

I was always a GM guy till I saw a cross section of a Ford frame next to a GM frame. I switched and never looked back. I bought a new GMC dually Duramax that overheated from day one and was told by the service manager " Oh that's NORMAL" ....WHAT !!!!! Normal for a idiot light to come on and say ENGINE OVERHEATING? After reading hundreds of other guys on the net that called GM to complain, I called and the person on the phone had the stones to tell me " OH you are the first to tell us about this no one else has a problem"

Ya, I get all manufacturers have good and bad years and models, but for me it's how they handle issues, like GM handled the key issue.

Add me to the list that doesn't understand why anyone would want a truck with a box shorter than 6' . I can understand not wanting a 8' box with a crew cab, as they can be a pain to park. Seems to me a full size SUV would like a suburban would be more versatile than a truck with a 5 1/2' box.

My muddy dirtbikes and wet kayaks don't seem to mind my 5 1/2' box. Don't think either would fit in a suburban. There must be a lot of people who do understand and want them too because they sure sell the heck out of them.

I wouldn't want the 5.5' box but you are right...they sell a bunch of them!

We just spent a week at a cabin on Table Rock lake in Mo. Just for me, my wife and 2 kids I had the 6.75' bed full of stuff. I have a topper and it was stacked above the bed rails. I don't put extra gear in the boat. It pushes the trailer / tire limits by itself.

Same with hunting. Two dog boxes and 2-3 guys gear it fills up in a hurry.

For me, the question will not be bed size. I will have to order the crew cab 6.5' bed. I would like to convert to a tonneau cover. But after all these years (20 or so) the topper will be hard to give up.

To each his own.

19.6 mpg at 54 mph average isn't very good. Must of had a strong headwind or a lot of idle time.

Yeah, 19.6 is not very good for a 4x4 supercrew gas V8 truck that is 5,500lbs. The truck is supposed to get 19mpg and it did better. It was up to 19.8 but it drove it to town and pulled it down.

I agree that they make different size trucks for different needs and that what works for one person may be unthinkable for another. Thats what's great about having so many choices today I remember when having an extended cab pickup was a huge upgrade in cab space!

However don't underestimate the versatility of the suburban, remember it has a roof rack for kayaks and such. :)

Here is my dash. 2012 Ecoboost, 3.73 FX4. 37000 miles this is the average.

I hand calculated 3 tanks and all were within .1mpg.
