i dont think there is any chain in your tractor, probably gears.

View attachment 384430I am the new owner of a Yanmar 3110 and see this lever that I don't know it's function. I ordered a service manual from Hoye but I can't find the description of this lever in the manual and the pics aren't very clear in the service manual. I have not moved it with tractor running but did move it while engine was stopped. It moves easily but I just don't want to mess with some thing I know noting about. Can someone please tell me what the functionality of this lever is and how should it be used? It's the lever just below the gear shift decal. Thanks in advance...alorio1

336d also has similar lever, similar location ..

Reason I made the statement that I didn't believe the 336 had this is, I've not seen it in my operators manual. I guess I just never noticed it in there. I remember Fredricks said it had something to do with creeper gear. I just couldn't remember exactly what he said. It's tough getting old

That places the tractor in creeper or crawl. With the clutch in,
rotate the lever 1/4 turn clockwise so it is pointing toward the seat. While holding the lever toward the seat push the gear lever from the (1) position to the (C) position which is above first speed as shown on the sticker. Release the clutch and the tractor will creep very slowly forward. Mine is a D model so it is 4 wheel drive with a hydro drive lever so I have an additional 3 forward crawl speeds and 1 reverse.

many have said here that its like .3 MPH or something rediculously slow so there is absolutly no need for it. They said its so slow you almost have to get off and go inside and come back out to even see it move!!

I have heard it is the gear you use if you want to see the seasons change while putting the tractor in the barn.

I honestly cant imagine why even on a rice tilling tractor you would want to go that slow? Maybe its the gear you use for moving houses or 50000 pound trailers?

first gear on my YM2000 is so slow that i dont think i have ever seriously used it other than testing or just messing around?

The only way I have ever used my creeping gear is when the yard is filled with sticks from a hurricane I put it in first and creeper and let it ride along across the lawn while I pick up all the little sticks and put it in the bucket

Yes, it is so slow that you can get off the tractor and watch it move very slowly. I have a pond behind my house and I have a little flat bottom skiff to paddle around the pond. Snakes were getting under the boat and when I would move the boat they would hit the water. I hooked the tractor to the tow line, put it in crawl, got off and stood by the water with my shotgun. As the line tightened the boat slowly started to pull away. When the snake came out I was ready for him. You can walk 10 times as fast as the tractor moves, so I wouldn't be above hooking a trailer behind it and throwing sticks in it after a storm. When they say crawl, they mean, crawl.
