Until the accident investigation is complete there is no knowing if a failed weld was at all involved in this event. Until then everything is speculation.

This looks like a weld defect to me. The arrow is where the joint is improperly joined, and the red line is tracing what looks to be a crack or pull starting where the weld is not properly tied together. If it is not a crack, there will eventually be one there I suspect. The weld will start to crack at the weakest point...and that is the weakest point from what it looks like.

I have no idea what Sodo is saying, except tilting at windmills

I was thinking I saw the same thing....but figured my screen was playing tricks on my eyes.

Welding is trying to salt away the record for most locked threads in a rolling 30 day time frame

I have 5, do I hear 6, who'll go 6, got 5, need 6 ;)

Speaking of trailer hitches and roadways,,,,

Mark you have an eagle's eye - in real life it looks even more like a crack! But this (OEM Ford trailer hitch) has only pulled 3,000lbs on dump runs, for 10 miles, and below speeds of 30mph (truck is new, 3 weeks old). I thought it was interesting to note almost zero penetration. Jim I''ll probably weld it on 2nd side but still thinking whether I should go back to the dealer with it. One thing about this joint, its good weldment design, it's a good weld to crack, if that makes any sense.

You guys are nuts, MIG welds are strong, this hitch is bomber!

Tried looking up your the newest slang usage.
Founds lots but nothing that made logic in your context.

Last time the internet look-up yielded nothing like the definition that you provided when I posted the slang explanation that you used back in early August.
Once again I can find nothing that would explain the context of "hitch is bomber". I know that the young crowd changes meanings to words all the time and even Google can't keep up on the newest slang but nothing I find makes sense. I can speculate but I will ask. What is the slang meaning for this one?

I bet it was welded with a 240 volt machine, but that doesn't mean it was set hot enough!
