Thanks Bigdeano, The wire was attatched to the alt, but didnt go anywhere. I have no idea how and why it became disconnected.

that big red wire (about the size of a large milk shake drinking straw, should connect to the BATT terminal on the alternator and connect to the POSITIVE post on the battery ... or to the really big wire on the top of the starter ( that wire goes back to the positive post on the battery too)

go to a HD / Lowes / or store that has an electrical department ... ask for "ring connectors" and buy the "yellow" ones ...

put new connectors on the ends of your hanging wire and re-connect them ....

Thanks Jaotguy, yes, the battery goes to the Alt, this is another red wire, not as big as the batt,

Hey all,

I have a Ford 1900. There is a wire on the back of the Alternator that is hanging, dont know how it came off. I dont know where it goes? I am schematic illiterate. Can some one [ nicely, no remarks please] tell me where to hook it up to?

Thanks

So you removed the hanging wire before you took the picture?

Right now there are no wires that show in the picture, going to the alternator.

Can you take another picture not quite as close, straight on showing all of the back of the alternator.

Looking at that picture of the alt,
it seems as if there was never a wire on the "bat" terminal, the bolt looks awfully rusted.
Without that wire going to the battery, I don't see how it would charge.
As faxman stated, I don't see any wires also.

We are talking about a replacement alternator correct ?

Did you redo the complete electrical system ?

As stated we need a clearer picture, showing all the wiring and a close up of the end of the "Hanging Wire" ?

Who is the manufacture of alternator ?

What year is it ?

Thks

Where did you get this idea?
From what I read, there was no talk about a "replacement", correct?

The alternator is not the original.

Xfaxman.....Yes, Sorry but I did take the picture after I removed the wire. I removed it a while ago. The tractor will start but not with out a jump.

Scrambler82...No, I never redid the complete electrical system. Just fixed things when they were getting ready to break.

The battery wire is going straight to the starter

just run a #8 wire from the BATT post on the alternator back to the same post (+) on the battery that the starter is attached to .... once above 1200- 1400 RPM , the alternator should kick in and charge the battery .... test by hooking up a volt meter ( if you have one ) to the posts on the battery .. it should jump above 13 volts when the alternator starts making power ....
