BX - Buyer's Remorse? Loader remorse, anyway.

Like a few others, I'll admit that as a BX25 owner, the OP's comments and those of a few others got a little under my skin. But I'm not going to spend more time defending the BX since others here have done a good job of that. I will observe, however, that Jay4200 was asked 3 times or more what weight he had on the back of his BX2200 but so far has refused to answer. Knowing what I know of my BX's capabilities, I have to assume he had little to no rear ballast. To get a full bucket of anything on a BX you need traction, just like every other tractor, and when it comes to traction, weight is your friend.

So Jay, what's the deal? And don't be like us other BX owners and fib about it.

My little BX2360, with the front loader, moved 58 tons of pea stone in 2 days just beautiful.

Exactly my point. It would take me all of an hour to move 58 tons of material with my L4200, maybe two at the most, and I have a small bucket (5' rock bucket) on my tractor and a GST tranny (which absolutely sucks for loader work). Like I said before, I expected a little more capability out of the lil' loader, especially with the HST tranny.

Sorry - neglected to answer the rear ballast question - I have a 1500 pound cement block cast around a 3pt mount on the back. OK, not really, I'm lying like a good BX owner .

Actually...I had nothing on the back, though I do have the MMM hanging on it, not that it helps anything. I did surmise that lack of weight was a problem off the bat. OTOH, I don't have anything on the back of my other tractor either, though it has a couple grand on the BX. I'll admit that digging in the rocks and sand is a challenging traction problem, however my first use was simply digging some gravel out of a pile, with the wheels on hardpack - didn't have much luck there either, though it did get a little tippy with less than a half bucket too, so lack of weight was an issue.

I guess Cherokee reread what I said and looked at what tractors I have and realized he made a fool out of himself. At least you can say he is a classy guy, he would have hit me in the jaw because of what I said about a BX.

Ding Ding Ding... You need weight on the 3 pt to counter the loader (even empty). There is no traction at the rear tires when a FEL is bolted on the front of these smaller rigs! 4wd helps a little, but not much. Go put 500-600 pounds on the 3 pt and try it... Your larger tractor would like it also... Unbelievable!

The very short wheel base makes counter weight (rear ballast) even more important...

I'm still scratching my head over this one, Just unbelievable!

I'll add a little more; My L3800 sucks with no weight on the 3 pt doing loader work! It sucks a little less with a 6' box blade on it. It is a completely different animal with 600-1000 lbs on the back, absolutely unstoppable!

Now our old L3750 is heavier, longer wheel base, larger chassis and works fair without weight on the 3 pt and has for many years. But doing this wore out the front axle components and we spent $1200 in parts a couple years ago fixin it...

Yes, I think Jay would be much more impressed if he put even 400 lbs on the 3PT. It would make a world of difference. So would any kind of tooth bar. My L3800 is a world of difference trying to do loader work with nothing on the back, then adding my 550 lbs box blade. His BX still wouldn't lift the load of his L4200, but it would proportionally do much more work than he experienced the first time.

So this thread went 8 pages and ends up the original poster (and previous tractor owner) did not put any weight implement on the back wheels ............unbelievable is right !! I think you owe an apology to all the BX owners.

From BX2360 manuals:

Loader manual recommends a maximum of 420 pounds on the rear as loader ballast.

Tractor manual recommends a maximum of 275 pounds on the front as rear implement ballast.
