Professional sales people will not talk down the competition because they know it hurts their own reputation rather than improving it. However, a pro may say in passing, "Have you heard about frames breaking on GM trucks that are being used for plowing?" A true thing purposefully thrown out to cast doubt on a competitive line-up.

And having a background in sales myself, I have no issue with bringing real facts about the competition into any discussion. With that said, just making statement such as "I wouldn't buy Korean" and "Hope you never plan on selling it" don't cut it for me. Statement that make unverifiable claims such as "I've heard they are made cheap" but then can't be backed up by facts and examples are lame, useless, and quite detractory toward my faith in the salesmans knowledge of the tractor market, and thus, his own business. Good salespeople, know their product and their competition, and can speak to both equally well. If you can't do that, then just keep your mouth shut about the competition and quote me your lowest price.

me, I don't romance any tractor. They are tools, nothing more. I've looked at Kioti's but thyey don't build one large enough for my needs (I farm) so I have 2 large Kubota's. JD is simply to high priced for me.

Minimum power for me is 90 pto

I really don't think there is a manufacturer that is grossly subpar with any other these days. With that being said a lot of times it's probably easier for a sales rep to smear a competitors product verses than trying to sell how their product stands apart.

One of the main reasons I switched from kubota to deere was simply because it is easier for me to research and order parts. I own a bunch of old JD farm implements and had to order parts through JDs website. I was actually surprised I could still find parts for my 1950's planter through them. It wasn't cheap but figured if they are keeping inventory of an obsolete planter than getting parts for my tractor for years to come shouldn't be an issue.

For someone who upgrades every 3-4 years this might not be an issue because all manufacturers tend to keep a supply of current or late model parts but for me I plan to wrench on my stuff myself and usually hold on to it forever so the accessibility to look online and see a schematic layout and having the parts inventory in the US is a huge plus for me.

I have to suggest that the two makes of Chinese tractors that I veiwed were below par significantly. One model you could only uses 4wd when it's slippery and not when using a FEL. The demo tractor wasn't lifting the bucket sad there was hydro oil everywhere. The other a friend had bought and the bucket was junk and the tractor had had numourous problems. It hadn't don't many hours but the owner had spent considerable time on the tools keeping it going. Yes you get a big band for your buck though.
Kioti ticked the boxes for me.

My day job we use domestic, Japanese and South Korean raw material. One particular type we have went totally with the Koreans because of multiple quality issue with the US mill. It is one of main products with a domestic customer and couldn't risk another issue. So far we are not considering changing. Also Deere tractors are made all over the planet. Deere imports from India and Mexico and they have had there share of issues
for a Dealer to make a negative statement about Kioti. Sad they resort to doing that.

We had this same conversation with Ford and Chevy for decades... and now Toyota sales more cars in the US than either of them. Actually, so does Honda and Nissan... and I bet Kia is closing the gap with every passing year. Talk is cheap. People are smarter and do more homework before purchasing these days. .
That's not so nor has it been so.

Ford and GM have rediscovered that if they build reliable, attractive cars, people will buy them because they are good, not because they are cheap. Volkswagen seems to have forgotten this.
Auto Sales - Markets Data Center - WSJ.com

Year to date by US market share, cars and light trucks.
GM is largest at 17.8%. 2.2 million.
Ford is 2nd with 15.1% 1.9 million
Toyota is 3rd with 14.4% 1.8 million
Chrysler is 4th with 12.5% 1.6 million
American Honda has 9.3% 1.2 million
Nissan has 8.6% 1.0 million
Hyundai has 4.5% 0.6 million
Kia has 3.6% 0.4 million
Subaru has 3% 0.4 million

...And the rest like Volkswagen, Mercedes, Mazda, Mitsubishi etc have even smaller slices, by unit volume.

Even if you take out "light trucks" the numbers don't change much as small SUV's (AKA "Cute Ute's) are very popular in the US and the Big 5 all make them in large numbers. Large SUV's, and Crossovers show the biggest gains.

Globally, I think that Toyota has the highest market share, Volkswagen is 2nd and GM is 3rd.

I tell our salespeople, "You can treat the customer like he is smart, or like he is stupid. If you treat him like he is stupid and he is stupid, you might get an order. If you treat him like he is smart, and he is stupid, you might lose an order. If you treat him like he is stupid and he is smart, he will never do business with you again. And if you treat him like he is smart and he is smart, you will have a customer for life. Who do you want to do business with?"

Toyota and VW have been trading top spot for awhile now. GM has not solved it's problems either, and is still bleeding cash gifted from tax payers. When you gift a company 60 billion dollars they look good on paper for a few years. Don't fool yourselves nothing has changed at GM except the end has been pushed back for political reasons. HS
