l235dt, all fluids changed now clutch pedal won't engage for pto

I looked carefully at the Illustrated Parts List at K's website and found that the 2-stages of the L235's dual clutch are NOT adjustable like some other models.

The single-clutch and dual-clutch L235s actually use two different clutch housings. The dual-clutch model has a deeper housing. Unfortunately dual-clutch model doesn't have a window in the side for clutch adjustment. My L345DT with dual clutch doesn't have an adjustment window either. When the travel clutch gets worn the only solution is splitting the tractor and replacing it. Ironically, with the tractor split, there's good access for adjusting the dual clutch - buying a couple years more use. It makes more sense to just replace the worn travel disk while its apart.

Can you briefly go thru what will happen when I split my tractor? will I need any special tools to change out the clutchs? what is going to fall on the floor when I pull the two halves away from each other. I am above average handy, but have not done this before...

Thanks,
Rob

There are several posts at TBN about splitting tractors for clutch jobs. There's one example here. There's another split described here including a couple pics of a L275. Your pic below has arrows on two of the bolts where the split will be. A flat floor and a rolling floor jack help a lot. It's a very straight forward job - nothing that will fall out. Read up on it, think about how you'll attack yours and then have at it - you'll do fine. The 8-1/2" clutch for the L235 is now replaced by part number 32425-14400 - around a c-note here . Ronnie Bowman at TractorSmart is very helpful when you're working on an older Kubota (or a newer Kubota)

I finally found the time to split my tractor. I pulled the dual stage clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing.
I replaced everything, I got everything back together....hooray.

Tractor started, check.
Tractor moved, forwards, backwards, check.
Pto engages, but not properly..... the clutch doesn't work, pto is live all the time.

What did I do wrong?

Congrats on doing the job. Pedal linkage adjusted for the new clutch? If travel engages/disengages 1" down from the top, the pto should disengage before it gets to the bottom.

The pto shaft sometimes turns but isn't really engaged - carefully hold a piece of wood against it to see if it stops.

They list a couple different pressure plate numbers (??)

The PTO is fully engaged, I suspect that the new clutch needs some adjustment..

The gap is still too big. There is about 1" of free play in the pedal, and this is the gap.
I guess I need to split it again to adjust this gap.....

Can I check this gap while the tractor is split?

The gap you need to adjust is between the release bolts and the PTO pressure plate if you have 1" of pedal free play adjusting the bolts on the fingers in the picture will not affect PTO clutch disengagement.

So I need to pull the clutch and adjust the bolts 11 in the following diagram?

Yes the #11 bolts (post #5) - edit - but don't unbolt the clutch.

I didn't realize you were going to replace anything beyond the travel disk. I should have recommended a shop manual so you'd see that replacing more parts is a bigger deal. Sorry I didn't mention it.

Edit - without an adjustment window the tractor will need to be separated again, but the adjustment should be possible with the assembly still bolted to the flywheel. (may require a special bent wrench) It's a PITA they forgot to include an adjustment window.

I purchased an entire dual clutch assembly, travel clutch, release bearing and pilot bearing and swapped everything out...I didn't realize that I need to make adjustments before putting it in.....
