Ouch.

Im usually the anti-tractorwaxer on this site... but.. ouch!

There is a reason that proper site clearing tractors are mostly steel and covered with guards, as I posted back a couple pages ago. Its arguably the hardest job on equipment you can do.

Your brush hog is hooked up strange. The top link is supposed to float.

I'm glad the grapple is surviving the carnage!!
Hope that comment doesn't jinx it

Eric, remind me to never buy a used tractor from you. ;)

Eric I have asked another member from here in Missouri to post up some of his photo's of what he has done for his "woods" cabbed tractor to make it a bit "tougher". I was thinking you maybe could use some of his ideas on yours. Just a thought. Good luck with everything.

You're wrong: you'd get the best maintained vehicle you'd ever own along with full workshop manuals, a .mil style service and repair log ('cause I forget). Anyway, this is still way less money than racing motorcycles and cars!

The good news is that after reviewing the exploded diagram, combined with my own experience of having already removed that cab top once before, it looks like I don't need to fiddle with the tractor's HVAC system at all! If true, my Ecoboost turbo fix project will not be threatened and I may have time to fiddle with engine speed controller box, version 2.

Unless it snows. Then I freak out and kick into winter mode.

I plan to fab up some simple guards beginning with a guard for the fuel line and a guard for the steering position sensor. I will move the Donaldson Air filter out from the clean out screen so the clean out screen can finally be serviced in the field. And I've already told my dealer about the clean out screen design flaw along with the suggestion to include a factory guard on the fuel line as well as a suggestion to tuck the filler cap inward a couple of inches.

Armoring up the tractor isn't worth in for me, IMO, because my forest clearing efforts will come to and end, and I'll kick into road-making, and basement digging activities.

James, for my part, I'd love to see some of those ideas. I did some work with my NX in the woods last week and was anxious the whole time about dinging up something. And it was nothing even close to the work Eric is doing.

TripleR was who I was thinking of.. He has some great photos of guards on his Kubota.

Thanks. As I was poking around, I found an epic thread started by ovrszd a couple of years ago that shows how he made both a belly skid plate and a brush guard for vulnerable areas on his Kubota. A few months ago in the same thread, TripleR posted some pics of a brush guard his brother made. Interesting ideas, and great fabrication work all around! http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/266010-m9540-belly-skid-plate-brush.html
