Comparison Kioti or Mahindra, new holland

/ Kioti or Mahindra, new holland #51
My opinions...

- if you feel you need the backhoe, then get it. If you're getting financing anyhow, better to roll the price in and have it installed and ready to go.

- the McCormick is fine but IIRC, the front loader they use is not as strong as the Kioti loader.

- HST vs geared ... I've had both, and for the work you describe, HST all the way. The added monthly cost for the HST is minimal, just get it and don't look back. Don't let the small difference in up front cost make the decision for you.

- the Mahindra 5010 is actually a TYM t503 with Mahindra loader. That's not to say it's good or bad, just something to know as an added research tool... if you have a TYM dealer near you, check their prices.

- The Mahindra 5010 doesn't have telescoping 3pt ends OR telescoping 3pt stabilizers. Those are very useful features, and the Kioti DK (not DS) will have them. Actually, the TYM version comes standard with them too.

- Other brand options: I see price is an important factor for this search. You should definitely include the LS tractors (R4047 if you can find one, or the newer model, XR4046). LS makes the Boomer tractors for New Holland, as well as the smaller WorkMaster tractors. The LS tractors I mentioned will compete well against the tractors you've already mentioned, have a backhoe option, and will likely be priced better than the others.

- Don't forget to look at "premium" brands as well, like JD, Kubota, Massey, etc ... they are typically more expensive, but sometimes you can find a good deal. For what it's worth, I've owned Kioti, LS, and Massey ... and I feel the Massey is of higher quality. If the price is close, it's definitely worth a look at ALL brands you can compare.

- Finally, make sure you actually put your butt in the seats of all the machines and try them out. You may find that you don't like the way one of them "feels" ... you're hopefully gonna have this tractor for a long time, make sure it's comfortable and feels "right" for you, because, I promise, they all feel a little different.

Good luck!

, I guess I got lost somewhere in this thread, but seems to me it's hard for fellow TBNrs to evaluate price when your quotes are after taxes and trade-in. Taxes can vary state-to-state from 0 to 6% or more, so recent deal experience elsewhere must be adjusted for any differential. On the trade-in, are the dealers all uniform in offering $4500 for your trade?

.

I have to agree here. It would be best to give us the price without the trade and taxes and list the amount offered for your trade with each tractor

My guess judging from the prices you mention compared with quotes I have obtained this past summer that you aren't being given very much for your trade or trades.

When I buy a new car/ bike/ truck/ tractor or trailer, I never talk trade till I have a base price first.

I Also recommend looking at the TYM 503 if your interested in the Mahindra.

I think you are getting next to nothing for your trades in the second Kioti offer. Get the tractor the way you want. If you want a backhoe, get it. I'm not a fan of the HST types as it goes against my natural inclinations so geared tractors are not the monsters they are purported to be by some. Are the HST's easier? Absolutely. Do they fit my personality? Absolutely not and with a shuttle shift, a geared tractor operates like you're breathing. Lets forget about reliability, dependability and longevity. No quantitative measurements on those aspects beyond "I have one and it's been fine" or "I'll never buy another one again". These tractors are under warranty for the first 4 or 5 years. I'd ask the dealerships who are an hour or hour and a half away that if there is warranty service needing to be done, will they come and pick up the tractor with no "service charge". You are going to get used to operating any tractor you get but it's easier to get one that "fits"you and is as intuitive to your wiring as possible. To me, that was the most important issue when I bought mine last year. I needed to be able to mount the tractor from both sides. I needed the tie rod to be up and behind the front axle as 90% of how I use a tractor is in the woods which are dense and obstructed. Did I think I bought what I regarded as the best tractor? Nope. I bought the tractor that was best for me price wise, fit and abilities as opposed to what I thought was the best built. It's done everything I've asked and surprised me at what it could do so presently, I'm content.

I think you are getting next to nothing for your trades ...

Let's be realistic tho ... I wouldn't expect to get much at all for two OLD tractors like that. No offense, but tractors like those are really meant for the private market and are basically collectibles. If I was a dealer, I wouldn't want them on my lot, trying to sell them.

My opinion...

It seems to me that a sticking point is the trade in value of the OP's current tractors. Why don't you sell them privately? I believe people here consistently get a higher price in a private deal than on a trade in. It may take longer, but if you get a better price, its worth it. The dealer is selling current tractors for a reason, he doesn't want old tractors on his lot. On the other hand, many people will pay a good deal for a working older tractor in good condition.

McCormick is the exact same as Kioti except for the paint, even the loader. HST is very nice, I don't know why a non shuttle tranny is even made any more, that's the big thing against the Mahindra. If you are going to do a lot of loader work with occasional use for the backhoe, get the HST McCormick, you will know why as soon as you drive it. You can always get a backhoe later if you need to. If you are doing a lot of backhoe work, get the Mahindra, cause the tranny won't matter. I will say, coming off my 5 by 1 Farmall H, I don't know how I would manage a loader, especially in a tight area, without HST. Also, in practicality you will never notice the couple 100 pounds difference in capacities between these tractors, just think of them as equal in that regard.

No, I'm pretty sure McCormick uses a Woods loader.

I have no idea, but if that is the case then the McCormick probably has a higher lift capacity. All the Woods loaders that I have looked at seem to have higher specs than the OEM loaders.
