well, you done well w/equipment. only comment i can make is....the before image allows more cover for wildlife, the after, more of the manicured look. i struggle with that decision on my own place all the time. i'm thankful to have the amt. of acres and to be within national forest to have the luxury of some kind of balance. i do like the looks of your place, and your equipment. & best in striking that balance! enjoy the honeymoon with the new toys...

The issue for us is that the house is at the extreme SE corner of the property, at the highest point of a downslope: there isn't much room for so much as a woodpile.

The area we've cleared was a potato field back in the 50's and was logged in the 80's so as it is the only flat area around and is near the brook. It was also the yard for the logger so he left all kinds of logs and cut pieces stacked here and there. We went in with the brush cutter to get a lay of the land and clean up all the junk he left.

9 or 10 of the 12 acres are still untouched since the last logs were taken out. We will clear one or two of the perimeter walking trails and call it good. "Manicured" is not the first word used to describe the place: this picture was taken 20 years ago and the open area had closed in 15-30' since.

We hired a local logger who also owns property as we wanted to get someone who didn't just have $$ in their eyes. We had to have a good sized Ash tree taken out and he showed me something interesting. There are around 34 dark rings in the center, and about 30 of the lighter rings. Counting back, once the area was logged and the lot cleared, the growth of this tree really accelerated. It was 22" diameter and should be great firewood.

This is the driveway after we turn off the Class VI road. You go over a brook, then the potato field is on the right, then you continue uphill to the house. So driveway is 678' feet but who's counting....Previous owner says brook is clean enough to drink from.

I was going to put a "Chappaquidick" sign next to the bridge.....

Got round one of my log pile going. More next week. Glad I have a tractor and pallet forks to move this stuff! The biggest one is likely over 600 lbs.
