I don't see what all the fuss is about here? It is his machine and he wanted it shorter, Its done now and he is happy with the results. That should be the end of the story and if he decides to sell it he can tell you it has been modified and then if your with the safety police or just concerned about it you can make a decision to replace it with standard height unit or not buy the machine.

For all the safety police and sue happy folks out there remember one thing IT IS MY LIFE NOT YOURS! If I choose to take the rops completely off rather than shorten it the 2 inches needed to get into the garage would you be any happier ?

Yes mine will be modified and unsafe very soon I wonder how I will sleep at knight knowing that someday instead of slipping in the bathtub and drowning in 3 inches of water I might roll my tractor off the edge of the yard and die due to not having a factory height rops but the fact is I probably wont have a seat belt on anyway so what does it matter.

I would just take it off completely but then I wouldn't have anyplace to hang those work lights from!

Wonder if there is any reason why tractor ROPS engineers don't put the hinges about a foot or so from the top of the ROPS so that it will clear a 7 foot door when folded and will provide a good level of protection in a rollover if you forget to put it up. (I can see a potential problem with working lights - any other reasons?) I'm speaking about compact tractors of course.

Not sure what all the fuss is about either. Anyone here, is still free to ignore any advice they choose.

You are free to cut yours, or take it off. And, anyone else considering this, should also be free to make an informed decision about theirs.

Here's a link to a TBN thred from a few years ago that states the same model Kubota with fixed vs foldable ROPS is 4" different in height.

On the MF subcompact, that difference is because the seat raises for backhoe use. So, if it comes with a backhoe, the ROPS is higher, and a folding type. If not, it's lower, and fixed.
