Wood splitting, what do you do with your slag?

Bigger pieces go in the stove, smaller stuff is used for mulch!

I usually wait until the end of splitting time, blade it into a big pile and burn it with all the crotches and punky wood. I then shovel the ash into the loader and spread it in the woods.

I took a half yard of splitter waste and dumped into two mudholes on my one gravel road. Absorbs some of the water and helps prevent further washout. That's the theory anyway!

Split firewood is easier to use for heat. So I rake up the trash and use it to bury in my Hugelkulter (google it) beds. I use that carbon to soak up water for the crops to feed off of as it decomposes.

I noticed that with my SS splitter, I don't get the slag like I would with a hydro unit.

Have noticed this also. Great splitters.

I box it up and burn it in my backyard firepit along with some split wood.
