welding cast housing?

pmsmechanic, I am from Kimberley, not to far from you, thank you for the imput.
I have been trying to cross reference the part numbers to see if they were on any other machines but I was having no luck. I will try again now. I had a closer look tonight and the cracks propagated from the mounting bolts to an access port, then to up and over the top and down to another access port on the left side. Then horizontal back to the front. It seems to me that on the right side around the mounting bolts there probably was a stress crack there from me carrying too big of logs in the past with the loader or from the classic plowing into a frozen nugget in the winter. Then yesterday working the loader it finally gave way. It's hard to say but there seemed to be dirt in the crack near the mounting bolts and inspection port and clean up and over the top to the other side indicating old and new cracks.

Does anyone know of any tractor wreckers? I will start by searching this forum.

'll have a closer look at it when I split the tractor to see if it can be welded. It does not look shattered and It does hold a magnet so it must be cast steel so a little easier to weld.

Cheers

Kelly

Sorry to hear of the cracked housings - here is a used tractor parts outfit (Draper Tractor Parts) Tractor, Crawler, Combine Parts & Salvaged Equipment -never know?? they do have a free 24 hour locating service, hopefully a used piece is available Good luck

Here are some of my favourite ones. Medicine Hat tractor wreckers 1-877-527-7278. Medicine Hat probably won't have it but they do get parts out of the States. Gratton Coulee 1-780-754-2303. Westlock Tractor Parts 1-800-563-0112. Sexsmith Used Farm Parts Ltd 1-780-568-4100/ 1-800-340-1192.

I do buy parts out of the States and have a freight depot in Sweet Grass, Montana which is just south of where I live. If you want to use it pm me.

On John Deere's parts diagrams they have a "Where used" search. You look up the part number and then type it onto the search blank. It'll tell you on which equipment the part number is used. It's pretty handy.

The pics you posted would indicate an almost impossible task of welding it back together but the description you give sure sounds as if its even worse than the pics show. I would start looking for a replacement part and forget about repairing. This is one of those that will keep breaking no matter how good the welder who tackles it is. Just too much ground to cover for the type and strength the welds will need to be to hold it together not to mention as others have pointed out the prep work for the welding will be extremely difficult to get right.

Wengers of Myerstown is just over the mountain from me and should be able to help you out with the parts needed.

Good luck with the repair!

For used parts, whatever they may be, you can copy part numbers, and go to TractorHouse http://www.tractorhouse.com/Default.aspx#PartsSearchTag and paste the part number in the appropriate block to search many salvage yards in their system.

I din't know this and thought it might help you out too.

Just fill the cracks up with dirt and mud... Then trade it in at the John Deere dealer... I would not try to fix that tractor... John Deere will make the trade, then when you are long gone they will pressure wash the tractor to get it ready to sale and see the crack... They will then fix it or just scrap the tractor... You will be money ahead and get a bigger tractor for your needs... It time that some one stuck it to John Deere...

The big one around here(WY/MT) is Utah Track & Welding in Salt Lake City 552-6931. Area code is 800 or 801.

Problem with this is they may do a very small, get by repair, or not even see it at all, then sale it to a buyer "As Is." Seen it happen on pickup trucks and engines.
