Mounting a PTO hydraulic pump

If it must be hard mounted see if you can get a lovejoy coupler of the proper size. Conversely, if you do not have the room for yet another adapter, then perhaps you could mount the hard mount on "soft" polyurethane mounts instead of metal to metal.

2X the lovejoy idea. The coupler will take the beating instead of the bearings.

Any leads on a lovejoy coupler for a PTO shaft?

If you don't need to use an attachment at the same time, I would be tempted to make a small trailer or 3pt mount and use a male-male adapter and a drive shaft... much like a generator would do. Seems it would be easier to mount/dismount.

This all adds up to making the installation as complex as possible for no good reason. As stated earlier, these Prince (and Prince knockoff) pumps have been mounted with torque arms and chain anchors for 40 years. Apparently that's good enough for the world outside TBN.

I was just offering an alternative to what others were posting, as it seemed as if the traditional way wasn't going to work for whatever reason. Besides, if everything that worked for 40 years was never questioned we would never have any innovations.

Thanks again for the info.

My first concern was due to the cast iron pump which weighs around 50lbs and having it hanging off the end of the PTO shaft for hours on end while I operate a full PTO load, what it would due to the tractor PTO output bearings. It is good to know that this will not be a problem if I can mount the pump directly on the tractors PTO shaft.

My second issue was due to not having enough room to mount the pump directly to the shaft because this is a narrow vineyard tractor and the area around the PTO shaft is somewhat squished by the lifting arms of the 3 point. There is plenty of room for a PTO shaft for driving an implement, but not so much for the PTO pump so I will need to extend the shaft about 3 - 5 inches. That brought up the concern that with a coupler between the tractors PTO shaft and the PTO pump using a torque arm and chain would not work. I will need to spend some money and experiment, hopefully I will get it right the first time.

Any room on the front of the tractor for a crank driven pump? How many grooves on the crank pulley? If there are two there will transfer enough power to operate a side mounted pump? The factory oil reservoir could be used if a cooler is added.

I wouldnt side mount a pump off the crank, unless you know for sure that that particular engines front crank bearing is large enough to handle it,many small kubota engines have had isssues from driving things off the front, especially the 425 steiners, with the d905,they dont last driving a small driveshaft straight on...to a sunstrand pump. The D722 has no problem running the same pump and driveshaft,so it depends on your particular engine...
