What advantages does a fixed (no angling) plow blade have over just using the FEL bucket?

With the side plates welded on mine it is like a snow pusher, no raising and dumping the bucket plus a cutting edge that doesnt dig in like a tilted bucket would do. With the spring trip feature less stress on the tractor plus I gain a foot and a half more width. I will agree on a long driveway the angle feature would be helpful but I have a small yard so not a problem.

It depends on how good you are with your bucket I think. A plow is easier to start with. Last year I didn't use my 7' plow, just used my 5' bucket. It was faster because I didn't have to do the clean up runs from spills on the side. Either way works.

Heres mine I went with 15 foot hoses to rear remotes for power angle, no snow yet but waiting:dance1:

I like your set up. Simple and straightforward. Have you thought of replacing the two mount pins in the bucket in the bucket with a straight rod passing through the holes? It would make it a little more rigid taking out some of the diagonal play.

Well funny you ask that, the pins that you see are temp pins I used just while building it, I now have full 1 inch grade 8 bolts no play at all. as far as the rod goes That is what I had but can't get it in the bucket and slide it through as it was too long, good idea though. thanks for the suggestion though.
looks like I might get to test it out on thanksgiving day!!

What is the advantage over using the bucket and or a back blade?

I HOPE the advantage is that I can clear snow quicker with the front blade than with the bucket. The bucket is relatively small and I have a long driveway, so once the bucket fills up, snow runs out both sides. For light snow, the back blade is fine, but heavier snow tends to accumulate in front of the blade and get pushed into the rear tires, plus you get a sore neck looking behind you all the time. Looks like I'll be able to test the new setup tomorrow. We are supposed to be getting 6"-8" of snow.

I think a backblade would work well, but not for me! I am so stiff that it is hard to turn and look over my shoulder. If I need to, I stand at an angle resting one hand on the seat, the other on the wheel, one foot ready for the clutch! Gets old pretty fast.
I've seen back blades use to clear sidewalks of accumulated ice. They are pretty handy - going either way.

I had the same set up on my old international 2 wd worked great.
if you look careful at my pics the blade is mounted 18 inches to the right I can wing back the snow on my 3/4 mile road after I plow with the truck or plow with the blade. But the big one is you can run it up the piles of snow and push snow another 6 feet high. I also drive down the road on the edge with the bucket up and take the tops off the banks so there is room to plow more snow. after last year we needed every snow weapon we could lay our hands on!! with the power angle you can turn and scoop snow I did last year with just the bucket and this works a lot better for snow, although the bucket comes in handy in some spots so I just pull the 2 pins and ready to go.
