I for 1 am glad you came up with a deal from the local guy. Volume often decides the price a dealer has to charge to be there next year and if he was gone when you needed some repairs I bet you would have wondered about your purchase then - well done sir !

I had priced one at the local dealer also then bought one at barlows for almost 2000 less
wondering if its the same local dealer

He didn't buy from Barlows.

My first machine, a Yanmar,SC2450, got a local price on it but didn't agree to buy it.
I then searched the web, more just for grins to check pricing before laying down the cash.
Found the same machine for $3500 less and delivered, one state away.
$3500... No contest, I asked my local dealer to adjust his price some, no way it wa happening. I showed him the price and told him all I wanted was some reasonable adjustment, split the price instead of losing the sale. His response was if you buy from the other guy you will not get any service from this company.
I purchased the tractor from the other guy, got my $3500 in my pocket, great.
luckily when I purchased the tractor the other guy included all of the service lubes for the 50 hour service and told me he can ship any of the lubes and filters and any hydraulic lines needed if I can't find them locally.
I never needed any more than the 50 hour service, I sold that one and now I just recently purchased a used Mahindra, one state away. I am hoping the local Dealer will accept me for service when and if I need it, seeing I just moved here from another state.

Ok, where is this going, one previous post mention righteous people spending other people money.
If I had setup a deal with the local Dealer, agreed on a price, I would have followed through with the deal, yes I would have approached the local dealer with a request to adjust the price, add an implement or two, or something to adjust the pricing to make up for higher price but I would have gone through with the deal. I would because I agreed to, that is why.

To me, I really don't care what you do, it is your life, your way, your tractor and what you pay for it but if you already setup a deal and you expect local service I would pay the price and write it off under service cost.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night !

lol !

I started to read all the posts but changed my mine. Talk to the dealer, ask about a break in price or adding an implement of two, his cost will be less on implements/attachments so he won't lose as much money. As stated in the postings I read, if you buy somewhere else after setting a price and ordering from them when it comes time for repairs either the repairs will take a lot longer, may never be done, or the labor rate will go up. Forget about the warranty repairs, you will be at the bottom of the list. Asking will not hurt anything but you did agree and you will need service, so if the dealer can't come through, bite the bullet and pay up.
Count me in on your team, Scrambler.

A buyer should use due diligence prior to committing to a purchase. This includes reviewing various similar products on the market, as well as prices from various vendors. Once you commit in writting, you should be bound, at least to the deposit paid.
In reading the orginal thread, I am under the impression that he asked Company B for a quote after he made the deal with Company A. If company B knew that he had already made a deal with Company A, he may have been playing the roll of a spoiler and low balling the quote just to give the customer buyers remorse.
If in fact Company B's quote was legit, I don't see anything wrong with the customer going back to company A and ASKING for a reduction in base cost, thowing in some extras, or commiting to some future discounts. The key is in the request and not the demand. The deal has been done, but the local dealer knows that there is future business to be had. Repeat business is what will keep a business in business down the road.
Just my two cents.

I love how proud and righteous everyone is on the internet when it's not their money.

Facts

Went to dealer to get tractor. It's on the lot
Decided on model. Dealer to get backhoe in from other dealer 20 miles away--no price set
Decide on price day 1
Hear back from barlows the next day for 2k less
Makes deal with original dealer by having them throw in a thumb

He didn't special order it and put them out. If you are willing to spend 2k more for the same thing than I would say that is pretty fiscally irresponsible. I personally bought from my local dealer but would've gone elsewhere for that large of a price gouge. My dealer came in the lowest and then sweetened the deal further due to them being hungry and appreciating their customers.

This is the way I understood it. No deal was made, just pricing but I may be wrong. If a deal is made with a Kubota dealer there are usually papers signed.

I for one hate paying any more than I have to. I'm always looking for the best price. But having said that, keep in mind that a price difference, however significant between two vendors does not necessarily equate to a 'gouge'. Many factors come into play including dealer incentives, when inventory was purchased , out of area tax credits, etc. Just a different perspective to consider. Terry
Not so. All Kubota dealers get the same incentives, prices from Kubota. Dealers do not usually own the new Kubotas on their lots or on the way to them. Not the same as car/truck dealers.

A buyer should use due diligence prior to committing to a purchase. This includes reviewing various similar products on the market, as well as prices from various vendors. Once you commit in writting, you should be bound, at least to the deposit paid.

Barlows gives his price to buy and I don't think he gives any different price knowing what price any other dealer has given. Have bought several Kubotas from him and yes, he's my local dealer. I like him and his employees and he's the most low pressure dealer I've evr dealt with. I was discussing profit margin with him last week and he just has a margin that he works with and doesn't have a paved parking lot, no golf cart to shuttle around his lot and it's not always super warm in the counter area iin the winter or super cool in the summer. Also, most of his employees have been with him for many years or for the past 11 years that I have been buying from him. I checked prices all around before buying from him and he was by far the lowest.

I too have found myself in this same spot while trying to purchase a Kubota from the local dealer in fact two local dealers. I prefer to buy local but I like the everyone on this board work hard for MY money, since I also work for a dealership all be it a different industry I understand how it works as our owner takes care of those who purchase from us ahead of those who did not, unless it is one of those situations like the person is new to our area.
Now with that said I also am smart enough to know from my experience that the real money is made in the back of the house not the front. The service and parts departments support the sales department. That is how high volume dealers work. Many dealers out their don't get that concept as they try to get all they can out of the sale. They sell fewer units therefore you have less units out there to make money on in the service and parts department. I don't fault any dealer as to how they choose to run their business after all they are all independent businesses with a franchise agreement to a factory I just don't have to do business with them.
Now back to my experiance dealer 1 (closest): walked on the lot asked to see his choices in an HP range (multi line dealer) settled on brand got a price quote with the implements I wanted no agreement as this was a spur of the moment idea. Went back home and started doing my homework with factory in doing so learned that the model I was quoted on had a non tier 4 model that was still available that as we all know was less on the pocket book. Additionlly I learned his price was straight MSRP minus incentives. Not happy so I got quotes from two dealers closer to my home as this tractor was to be at the "camp". Got my quotes in writing found both models at one dealer apples to apples comparison he was 1300 less + 200 less on implement = $1500. delivery fee were equal. The 1300 alone would have covered the bulk of the cost of implement. But this dealer had the teir 3 model as well at even more of a savings.
Called dealer 1 told him of my new information learned from him that they also had the tier 3 model on their lot and it was there when I was on the lot, but on this day he had someone coming into look at the unit and he only had one I told him call me back if that deal fell through and we could talk about teir 4 model. After a week I gave up waiting on that return call and contacted local dealer 2 (local to camp).

I have more respect for this dealer than Local dealer 1 as he was straight up front with me he had none of the tier 4 model had numerous of tier 3 model armed with my written quotes this dealers price was the highest I had gotten from any dealer and he was not willing to negotiate from his price. I respect more because he was honest and upfront about it.

Still waiting on that phone call back from local dealer 1 after 3 weeks I called him. Guess what the tier 3 model was still there but all this time he was waiting on the guy to get his funds together to purchase it. But he could try to get another one and gave my a quote still maintaining that 1300 difference but he would match the price on implement. He would call me back. I told him that I was not married to the tier 3 model but I really really wanted my tractor to have his sticker on it as I like to deal locally. During our phone call he tried every salesman trick in the book about the ither price. But I reminded him that I had provided him a copy of written quote. I also told him I did not expect him to match the price only make it closer and easier to live with as I wanted to buy from him. That was in September 3 weeks before the incentives expired I am still waiting on that phone call.
I am still in the market for a tractor still want a Kubota.
