It was very well taken care of by the previous owner, even evidence of wax.
And yes that is very dry wood, that is what we were after since we didn't have enough stacked and seasoned! The logs in the bucket are burning great.

Just got this like new Case DX33 a few weeks ago. We were going after all of our firewood the backwoods way with only a truck and trailer but this helps a crazy amount.

I am going to get some Amsoil hydraulic oil in her to help with the cold temps we are about to get around here.

I looked real hard at the Case before buying my JD. In the end, dealer proximity won the battle. Nice tractor.

Ummmm... I know you're going to take some heat for that pic so don't take it personally and listen to the advice given. What you're doing is torturing your front axle. Your manual lists how much ballast is required for your loader and you're not using any. Loaded tires don't take the stress off the front axle either, that's been debated here and finally had somebody try it out at their local scale. Anyway, it's probably not overly safe, but I'd be a lot more worried about damaging the tractor, you now have the weight of the log AND the full weight of the tractor swaying back and forth on your front axle.

Apparently front axles and FEL arms are made of balsa wood 'round these parts.

While I don't disagree about ballast etc., it isn't like the tractor has been driven like that its whole life.
On the other hand, with that ROPS down, you're going to die instantly. Get that thing up if you're even still alive.

Somewhere not on the internet, we've all been there. I enjoyed the pic. I wish I had a grapple.

It is best to square off with the load so the loader is lifting close to equal weight on each side otherwise you are twisting the frame while under heavy load. As was mentioned, you now put the entire tractor's weight on the front axle plus whatever weight you have lifted of that log. A good ballast REAR of the axle REMOVES weight from the front axle. As also was said, the ROPS should be up. A load extreme to one side can tip a tractor on its side when lifting. Not to mention roll over possibilities in other situations.

Having said that, nice looking tractor and firewood!!

I tried this pallet thing now that I have a tractor that can lift them. I tried building ends on the pallets to stack wood more easily but that was frustrating as I could not stack pallet upon pallet. I tried the method in your pic but i found that time consuming and frustrating as a result. I tried going half way up with some ends but you still have to cross them at the top and the side stakes loosen and fall off besides. I must be too impatient but this method seems too cantankerous for me. Must be a better way to do the pallet thing as I know it is pretty efficient if one has more patience than I..

While we were gone over Thanksgiving a big tree blew over in our yard.



While sawing up the big trunk the chainsaw found a rock embedded in the trunk at the bottom of the cut. Got out another chain & finished the other cuts. Got out a smaller saw & nibbled around the rock. I managed to get the cut opened up a bit with a long pry bar & then got the edge of the bucket in the cut & popped it apart.



Having the tractor was a giant help in dealing with this.
