110v welder and the 3/8 bend test

That's what makes me think a wire got knocked lose during shipping from here to your place. I tried to pack it up just like it came to me.

It looked good when I unpacked it but there is no telling how packages get treated when we are not watching. The loose wire or seems to make the most sense when you look at how it's acting. Or something is loose on the voltage dial inside.

Something had to have happened during shipping from here to there. With .030 wire I hit the sweet spot, far as looks and sound with in two adjustments of the voltage. Just a little more splatter than I would have liked. If it was my machine I would have ground the end off the nozzle right then and there!
This is a crying shame, maybe Mark can help you out. Mark generally bends over backwards to help out!

Dont' sweat it. It's not a big deal. I've got a 40 ton haul truck broke down right now, this is nothing.

I wanted to tear into the machine and try to fix whatever the problem is but at the same time I've messed with this for long enough in my opinion and don't have time to keep messing with it as I am a busy person, especially during hunting season. I might pull the cover off and see if I can notice anything obvious if I have time tonight. I'm surprised Mark has not responded to my e-mail yet but I'm sure he will when he has time.

Personally, I would be a little worried about a machine that couldn't take being shipped without getting messed up, especially since it sounds like it was well packed. I'm curious to know the outcome.

WOW, I'm shocked!:shocked: You don't think the machine got damaged in shipping from here to your place do you? Like I said before the voltage was a little touchy, but it always ran the same when I put it back.

As said, not everyone can weld 1/4" with a 110 volt machine.

Conversely, some can't weld 1/4" even with a 220 volt machine.

Again, it's more about the weldor, than the welder.

I don't claim to be the most experienced welder out there but I have been welding with these 110v mig machines and other larger machines for over 15 years and have AWS certs and have welds in all 50 states. I even taught welding for a short time when the local Job Corps lost their instructor and needed someone to step in and help out. I've never once had to call a manufacturer to help me figure out how to work any of the mig machines I have used in the past, until now. The issue is the machine.

The issue is the machine.

I think shipping is a big issue with welding machines. I bought my Lincoln V350-Pro on line. Everything worked fantastic, until I went to use the spool gun. I called my local welding supply, the manager sent the outside sales guy to my house, because he use to be a repair tech for ESAB. He couldn't figure it out. Off to the repair facility it went. They found it, loose wire!

Check the connection inside where it energizes the spools & flex housing. Understand it ought to be independent of the dial, but,,,,

Also could there be a contaminant on the spools? I've seen a small peice of felt clamped on the wire (before the spools" to wipe off any foreign matter to keep spools clean. Take them out and clean them?
