I was going to purchase one, but a friend gave me his to fix up provided he can borrow it whenever he needs it. No problem, the price it right. It needs some work. It has one bent lower cutting edge I will have to put back into shape. However I would like to know what this is so if I need parts I know where to start looking. I am also wondering if the tractor supply augers would fit on this?

I believe it was purchased at a non chain ag store in Connersville Indiana about 25 years ago. It was used a few times for a fence, and has been sitting in a field since.

Your PHD is a World Agritech Corporation made in Ohio many years ago. Some also refer to these as IMC (International brand ) International Manf Comp/Corp. I have same PHD.

Where can I look up parts?
Are there any other brands whose augers are compatible?
Why does it have two bolts holding on the auger?
Should I use shear bolts for both of those? Omit one and only use one shear bolt?
Where can I find a manual?

These people might have a manual :C.H.E. INC: New & Used, Retail & Wholesale Farm Equipment .(740) 852-3956
I have my phd a couple miles away at my sons property so I can't see it but I believe augers are interchangeable with TSC/Rural King augers / etc but the ends (drill tips) are going to be or might be different. The shear bolts # /size I believe is a #5.

So TWO #5 shear bolts? Is that what the versions from TSC use?

CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO : How To Assemble A 3 Point PTO Auger Tractor and Skid Steer Attachment Videos

No one shear bolt on gear box comeing from pto shaft #5 . Check out this video. Also need to use set screw so in case bolt shears pto shaft does not come undone up by gear box. The video is not of the same exact unit but mounts are same.
Hope it helps.

VERY VERY informative, thank you. I was thinking the bolts holding the auger onto the gear box were the shear bolts, not on the PTO shaft. I have not looked very closely yet, but Friday I plan on taking this thing all the way down to prep it for paint, and attempting to fix the buggered end of the auger bit.

You really don't want the auger bolt shearing off and leaving the bit buried 3' deep in a hole ;-) At least for mine (a different brand), the shear bolt is where the drive shaft attaches to the gearbox and mine uses standard grade bolts, I buy them by the pound at TSC :(

If it shears off because the auger is stuck, what keeps it from just shearing another bolt as soon as you start it up again... It wouldn't be any less stuck than it was when the bolt broke.

You & a shovel or you & a big *** pipe wrench unscrewing it from the ground. Either way, sucks to be you. :p
