Lucky no one was hurt. Contrary to the article though...there are no accidental discharges, only negligent ones.

Also don't put anything else in the pocket with a pocket pistol, just the pistol in a good holster. There are accidental discharges where a weapon malfunctions, but they are very rare.

Just what holster is "appropriate" might be a matter of opinion. Of course, most news articles provide very little information; only that it was a "firearm" and that he had a "handgun" permit, so we can assume he didn't have a rifle or shotgun, but whether it was a revolver or a semi-auto, what size, model, caliber, what kind of "safety" etc. is anyone's guess.

Even law enforcement officers disagree on which holsters are "appropriate". Sig Sauer sells paddle holsters for their semi-auto handguns. I have one of them and I know of a police department whose officers carry them. However, you can find on the Internet where some idiot, practicing his quick draw using one, shot himself. So some police departments, including Dallas, now prohibit paddle holsters.

I'm not sure which holsters are always "appropriate" and which ones will guarantee that you can't shoot yourself using it.

Guns seem to be very dangerous. I know this guy is legal and all, but I would prefer people didn't carry them around me without me knowing.

Unless everybody thinks they are a gunfighter, why carry with a round chambered?

I dropped the chambered round when a Sherif with a holstered M&P in a Galco shoulder rig had a round discharge when he was hugged at a wedding and it killed the woman who hugged him from behind. I'll take the risk of the extra half-second to rack the action.

FWIW, I like the Bianchi 56 Serpent Holster which keeps everything nice and tidy.

You are right. You should not carry a firearm with one in the chamber if you are uncomfortable. Matter of fact, you should not be carrying a firearm period if you are uncomfortable with one in the chamber. All this means is that you require more training.

S&W should stick to revolvers. You can carry with one in and not cocked.

Dokay, shooter, I'll keep your idea in mind as I'm wading through twiggy brush over uneven ground that what I really need is more training so I can keep my weapons in a higher state of potential accidental discharge!
