For me the term UFO means exactly what it stands for and has little or nothing to do with aliens. Also has little to do with my belief that the probability of intelligent life on other planets is very high.

I think we clarified all that early on in this discussion. But there are those that thru their own phobias tend to link UFOs with aliens.

I think when a person sees something similar to what's been described in this thread they have to first determine if it's identifiable to them, then contemplate if it was visible due to the involvement of intelligent life. Two separate issues. For me, I've saw hundreds of things I've identified as UFOs. Still contemplating the second part.

I knew it! Santa Is a flipping alien.....the sled thingy and some flying deer, one with a red nose, just didn't seem right to me....we've been duped by the government. Again.

What would it take to convince most people?

Was wondering why some people believe and others don't.
Perhaps how accepting or dismissive of extraterrestrial ufo's someone is depends on how authoritarian the person is? Do some people need an official government announcement?

Perhaps it has something to do on whether we trust others or need to see things for ourselves. Whether the testimony of thousands is to be believed? "A lot of people are idiots or liars."
Perhaps its a religious conflict? (-yes you can be agnostic on ufo's too.)
