iPad vs ?

This thread is of considerable interest since I知 contemplating getting an ipad air 2 or a Samsung Tab S. I have issues with BOTH, Apple痴 restrictions/storage/priority issues, Samsung (android) many which I have with the phone may or may not exist with a tablet all related to productivity. I had ?till have?aptop issues, and that has forced me into using my Samsung S4 for allot of email and internet use. The good, I知 finding I like the phone, and thinking I like a decent size tablet even more, for the type of things I do now, mainly emails/internet browsing?orums like this one. The bad, any email (or forum response like this one here) of any substance?otta do on the laptop due to keyboard. BUT, I知 reading that with a keyboard dock (for lack of a better name) an ipad or tablet sort of solves these issues. Question?an anyone verify this is indeed true? From my reading almost certain I would require some type of keyboard. Other issues. I致e experienced with the phone, and I realize it is not a tablet, but it is an Android device, and wonder how well a tablet handles these issues versus the phone:::: Printing?致e printed using Brother痴 iPrint. It works, but zero control on format etc?eally sucks. Need something better. Email?sing Gmail. The android app does not have group capabilities, killer for me on forwarding. And when I do forward, it adds those stupid >>>> symbols, these problems do not exist on the laptop. USB?nderstand Apple does not have?aybe the Samsung? Is it really needed?...thinking of camera card transfers. Removable storage? have a 48gb micro card on the phone and it is FULL with pictures. I could NOT manipulate the pictures on the card using the phone, I formatted everything/folders/pictures on the laptop so the gallery wouldn稚 go nuts and make you scroll scroll scroll through pictures, never really finding them?hort of it, file/data manipulation on Android is not pretty?s it the same on tablets? Office functions?...Although used seldom now?知 typing this into word to be pasted to the forum, and I do have a fair number of word docs and spreadsheets I still use. This Samsung phone comes up with a slow charging use original charger?I AM using original charger, and from the internet this is a common problem with this phone (shades of the laptop issues)?nyone know if Samsung tablets have the same problem? Hoping some of you have some of the answers. BTW, using CM security on phone and have no security issues that I am aware of. And on edit...I wish this forum would handle paste from word docs better than what you see above, the ' in some words destroys it. I'll leave as is so you can see, I think you can read through it....but I find that aggravating.

The restrictions I hear all the time about Apple are greatly exaggerated. I have not run into a single instance of something I wanted to do and was not able to do with my Apple products. To answer your keyboard question any tablet with Bluetooth should be able to use any Bluetooth keyboard. My iPhones charge quick not sure if the current android devices but was an issue I had with the razor max I had in the past long battery life but took 6 hrs plus to charge.

My biggest issue with android is no support. If they decide your device is not getting an update your only option is to root. And it's not just older phones if Google decides your not in the list of phones for the update it doesn't matter if it's only a few months old.

I'm a "tech guy" a dev but I don't want to have to spend time monkeying around just to get my phone to work the way it should have to begin with. Androids come with service providers or phone manufactures bloat ware unless you get a nexus devices. If I was going to get an android it would be in the nexus line. Hostly if Apple done something to make me want to change devices tomorrow I would choose windows phone over android.

I would say if you are not a power user save some money and get the iPad Air instead of the air 2 unless you want the Touch ID (finger print scanner). And as some have pointed out yes you can get cheaper android tablets but you get what you pay for. Android will not support them as long and they probably won't last as long in general. I know people that are still using the original iPad. These are just my options for now if I fell another manufacture would serve me better I would change but right now Apple products serve me flawlessly.

I guess it does help that if I can't find an app to do what I need I just write my own 😁. Good luck on your decision I hope I helped and same to the OP.

I have an iPad and it's quite nice. Having said that, I would NEVER purchase an Apple product. The iPad came to me as a freebie. My complaint is that Apple is pretty much a proprietary product - meaning everything comes from them through iTunes. That means you generally pay for the things you want. With Android devices - my cell phone is a Samsung Galaxy - free is the name of the game.

That's interesting I've used iPhones and iPads for years and have only 1 app I paid for and that is dash command which is a obd2 code reader app. So I would say your statement is very false.

To anyone interested the entire apple office products are free with new devices and have been since the iPhone 5. There are pay apps and free apps for all 3 platforms.

Very true!

Since i have a Samsung S4 phone how would i get pictures from my phone to an ipad. As i mentioned on the 48gb micro card i had to do the organization of that card with the laptop. Sync of pictures etc is a concern and don't say cloud. I live in the country and have a Verizon metered broadband modem my Internet is $$$ with a 20gb monthly cap. Without a micro card i could access with laptop and phone it would have taken forever to setup all the pictures i have.

You can get card readers for iPad -- they plug into the lightning port. We use one to transfer pictures from a camera.

This or you can transfer from the phone to the iPad over the LAN. No data plan usage that way. I'm sure there are other ways but it's late and don't feel like putting any more thought into if for the night. One of the nice things about apple product to apple products is you could use their air drop feature it uses wifi and bluetooth technology and is extremely fast as far as wireless transfers go.

Op here. Thanks. That was one thing I was wondering about. iPad Air vs iPad Air 2. I'm not a heavy user like some on here. My 4s still has over 6gb free space left on it. Matter of fact I have never filled up a computer. Definitely don't have 40+gigs of pictures. So yea I want something that will last. Also, other than screen size is there a difference between the air and mini.

For the previous generation, the Air and retina-mini were about the same internally (the older non-retina mini has same internals as an older iPad 2). Now, there is a huge difference, with the new iPad Air 2 being significantly more powerful than the retina-mini (which didn't change a whole lot). In fact, the iPad Air 2 has some CPU capabilities on par with laptop/desktop computers.

For most shoppers, I think the main distinction between iPad Air 2 and iPad retina-mini is generally screen size. And both are more than adequate for overall usage. But if you are after the maximum performance, then the iPad Air 2 is by far the best option. It's a real powerhouse compared to previous and other iPad devices.

Very well said I think the op would be best served with an iPad Air 1 or and iPad mini. I don't think he'd ever use the power the iPad Air 2 offers. The Touch ID is great and I love using it on my phone but I don't carry an iPad in public as much so don't think that would be enough to sway me to the iPad Air 2. The performance and it possibly being supported a little longer is the two main things that would sway me to the iPad Air 2.

More insight to my requirements. I知 a former IT guy and power user because of the type of work I did. I could buy any pc/laptop I wanted and did every two years. Don稚 miss it at all, and I致e forgotten more than I knew?.but the power user aspect is still with me.

Besides the email issues in particular I mentioned, I do have other requirements. Last winter I digitized 1500+ slides. I致e got another large batch to do this winter for a friend, once they saw what I did. Every single one was ran through Photoshop for enhancement, and I was brain storming the whole time how to get this more integrated. I was wishing for more speed out of the laptop as well. Also, I致e got a really huge amount of old photos I知 going to tackle to some day, but they pose a different problem in digitizing. I got the 48gb micro SD card?illed it?ULL, and now all of those slide copies plus 15 years of other digital pictures is on that card. I知 going to need more storage with what I want to do too. Not only can I access and show these mobile (old people really like looking at old photos)?his process gave me two copies of this important data to me?ne copy on the laptop and the other on that card. It would be very nice to integrate this process somehow, but would probably require more dollars (which I don稚 have) to be spent on camera equipment, or scanners, so with more time than money in retirement, probably won稚 happen.

The Ipad air 2, from my reading is a powerhouse, so is Samsung, I値l buy one or the other since I intended to expand on this data manipulation using ipad/tablet instead of the laptop. I need to figure what apps on both platforms can do that and how I can, If I can, automate this process better.

BTW use hdmi on the laptop to show these pictures, and as I understand, neither have this. My TV doesn稚 have Bluetooth.
