I can remember when I used to pay Social Security off in July or August, boy those days are long gone.If you are looking a your SSI statement from years past,it stopped when you reached maxed earnings, you may have made more money that year.
I started drawing at 62 years old(didn't have a choice) sure is nice now.

You made an interesting point, one I never thought about until just now....from '98 until I began drawing SS in late 2013 they would send me a statement of "Estimated Benefits" in mid-year but I never realized it had ceased until you posted here...thanks.

I like this subject. We were having a conversation with friends and one said something like "What I'd do if I had a million bucks...."

I said, if you make $25,000 per year, and you've been working for 40 years, you've already made your million dollars. All of us are within 5 years of each other. Most of us make more than $25k per year. Most of us are married, and most of our spouses work, making more than $25K per year also. So, for a married couple, its more like $50K per year for 25 years and you made your million dollars.... so what did you do with it? Where did it go?

After taxes....
You ate it.
You drank it.
You wore it.
You lived under it.
You drove it.
You fed it.
You clothed it.
You sent it to school.
You may have even played fetch with it.
Hopefully you had some enjoyment with some of it and managed to save some of it in case you live another 25 years!
Now what would you do with two million dollars?

Never bothered to calculate how much I have earned over the years - more relevant # is how much have we saved, & or owe ($0 in our case).
I also second having a budget - doesn't have to be complicated. We use an excel spreadsheet - ~10 columns, everything rounded off. Relieves stress & lets you know what you can spend on toys, travel, etc, without having to worry where the $ will come from when the property tax, insurance, etc, bill comes in.

I tried to calculate what my life's earning are, could not do it easily, but they are well into the millions. That depresses me. All I can say is I spent it. a nasty divorce cost me way too much, in every respect, probably 175,000 in cash and property. the lawyers of course got a **** of a cut too, 65,000..all after tax income, so double it..a quarter million or so. a gun would have been cheaper..and I would be out by now. I had a big job at a mil a year but the divorce screwed that up big time. She is hiding now.

I must admit that I most likely have close to 1 million in income in the past 10 years, but beign from Quebec at least 45% of it when in invome taxes. Don't get me wrong, I am doing fine, but with a stay at home wife, 3 kids and a house..... And a lot of schill debt to pay in the first few years.... There is not much left for the tractor budget yet..... But looking bavkwats, it is depressi g to see all that money bloqing away on high gas price ( untill 6 months ago) the grocery bill is growing like crazy.... And I can't wait to have kids in college or university....

So you make about $100 grand a year. I hope those are typos not how you think they are spelled
Maybe it's just auto correct.
