iPad vs ?

More insight to my requirements. I知 a former IT guy and power user because of the type of work I did. I could buy any pc/laptop I wanted and did every two years. Don稚 miss it at all, and I致e forgotten more than I knew?.but the power user aspect is still with me. Besides the email issues in particular I mentioned, I do have other requirements. Last winter I digitized 1500+ slides. I致e got another large batch to do this winter for a friend, once they saw what I did. Every single one was ran through Photoshop for enhancement, and I was brain storming the whole time how to get this more integrated. I was wishing for more speed out of the laptop as well. Also, I致e got a really huge amount of old photos I知 going to tackle to some day, but they pose a different problem in digitizing. I got the 48gb micro SD card?illed it?ULL, and now all of those slide copies plus 15 years of other digital pictures is on that card. I知 going to need more storage with what I want to do too. Not only can I access and show these mobile (old people really like looking at old photos)?his process gave me two copies of this important data to me?ne copy on the laptop and the other on that card. It would be very nice to integrate this process somehow, but would probably require more dollars (which I don稚 have) to be spent on camera equipment, or scanners, so with more time than money in retirement, probably won稚 happen. The Ipad air 2, from my reading is a powerhouse, so is Samsung, I値l buy one or the other since I intended to expand on this data manipulation using ipad/tablet instead of the laptop. I need to figure what apps on both platforms can do that and how I can, If I can, automate this process better. BTW use hdmi on the laptop to show these pictures, and as I understand, neither have this. My TV doesn稚 have Bluetooth.

Easiest way to display to a tv will be through an Apple TV box for the iPad/ iPhones. For android some of the Samsung tvs will let you stream from Samsung devices. I think Google tv what ever their little stick device is called will let you stream from most newer android devices. Not real up to speed on the android devices and their tv stick right now.

I can say I have the Apple TV and love it. It has most of the streaming services the only one I don't think it has is Amazon prime. You can stream to it from any apple device. So when we want to watch Amazon prime we can stream from one of our MacBook pros. For the other stuff you were asking about I'll have to read it over again some of the text is showing up weird.

This is usually the result of someone creating their post in a word processor then pasting it here.

Correct MikePA. But I posted from word to notepad, then to the forum, hoping it would resolve that, but didn't. Sorry for that.....BUT I originally typed in the response box on this forum...and this dang forum backed me up somehow and lost it all. So I went back to word.

Think I'll got to Best Buy and see if they can answer some of these questions.

Best Buy aka amazons showroom. Take what they have to say with a grain of salt. No problem with asking them questions but verify what they say by doing research before you buy.

OH YES. Very aware .... but sometimes you get someone who does know...OR...you overwhelm the clerk and they get someone who can answer the type of questions I ask.

Yeah, be very careful asking at about any store like Best Buy. Them boys don't know much for the most part. I usually know more than people at the dedicated computer stores, but I've been studying this mess since '84. Dug it out of ye Olde education rock.

What questions do you still have? Just curious. Also, I'd visit a local camera/photo store, not BB.

My biggest issue with android is no support. If they decide your device is not getting an update your only option is to root. And it's not just older phones if Google decides your not in the list of phones for the update it doesn't matter if it's only a few months old.

This is my beef with Android and one of the reasons I switched to iPhone. Many moons ago I bought the top end Android phone from the then-dominant maker (HTC Evo 4G if you have long tech memories). One year into my 2 year contract it was orphaned. No further updates would happen for it, ever. I'm constantly hearing this happening with Android phones. Meanwhile not only can you still put the latest iOS on a 5 year old iPhone 4s, but Apple is planning an update for next year to make iOS 8 work better on the 4s.

Android phones are often more advanced than their Apple equivalent when they first come out. But the carriers and Google abondon quickly support for them which makes them obsolete faster.

Plus the strength of Android, its openness, becomes a weakness as every carrier has a custom load that includes their bloatware and when the carrier stops selling that phone they stop supporting its software which makes that problem worse.

Well I went to Best Buy and as several mentioned here, I learned very little. I did leave there with them saying if you have a Samsung phone stay with Android, same with an IPhone, stay with Apple. I've read that as well. BUT I had not handled either of these so at least I accomplished that.

I want as high a level of integration between my whatever phone and my whatever ipad/tablet, that I can get. So I'm thinking, maybe incorrectly, that I should keep the OS between the two the same. I currently have a Samsung S4, and the reason, is iPhone at the time I got that just was not big enough for my taste. No regrets. I did handle the iPhone 6 and the 6 Plus while out, and if I made the decision today, well Apple has corrected the size issue. I actually liked the 6 Plus. Not sure my laptop will last 6 months, and not sure I want to wait 6 months either, that being the time frame I can do an upgrade to my phone. But this is in my thinking process about this.

IPad air 2 versus Samsung Tab S, is near a toss up from what I can tell (support issues not considered). I do not like the non removable storage with ipad, and expensive storage to boot compared to the removable and less expensive Samsung. Also one feature the multi-windowing of the Samsung, ipad does not have. I'm one of those users that have numerous windows opened up in a staggered manner, on my laptop, so I can jump to various windows quickly. That feature may or may not be beneficial on the tablet, but with the photo manipulation, bet I would use it.

So still undecided. I will say, Best Buy has definitely gotten into bed with Samsung. Large area devoted to Samsung, and Apple had almost nothing out. Quite obvious they wasn't pushing Apple....AT ALL, at least in the store I was in.

If you are looking for high level interaction, I doubly recommend same platform. For instance my win phone and tablet use my same windows account, wife's win phone and win tablet and win laptop use their same windows account, making sync, shared backup and calander and email settings identical across devices., same with cloud services if you use it.

I believe apple will have similar interconectivity. I know on android devices you use a google account, I assume that can be shared via phone and tablet but don't know that for sure, I'm just cutting teeth on the first Droid tablet iv ever had
