I changed my oil on my l3540 and put in a little to much oil. I'd like to drain a little out. My question is do I have to drain a little from each drain plug (right side and left side) or can I just drain from one side and will the oil even its self out?

Either plug is fine.

Depending on how over filled you are, you may be able to just swap out your oil filter. If you do, put the currant one in a plastic bag and reinstall next oil change.

Drain it with the engine COLD so you don't lose too much, you'll have better control when screwing the drain plug back in.:hissyfit:

Ask me how I know:shocked:

Good luck, Fred

Stick a plastic/rubber tube/hose in the fill hole and suck some out.

How overfull is it? IF only a quart or less overfull, I wouldnt worry about it.

Although I normally agree with LD1, not this time.

In overfilled sumps, the oil can foam (air/oil mix) rather then splash lube the bearings. Foamed oil does not lubricate the mains and rod bearings well.
Considering most CUTs only take 4-5 quarts, an extra quart is 20%-25% too much. And that oil might be in the tractor for a year or more (depending on the frequency of oil changes).
It'll be messy, but I'd drain that excess...

How much over? On some of the Kubota diesels, the dip stick goes in at a shallow angle. If you're over by a little it looks like a lot more on the dipstick. So factor that it. When I did the 50 hr service on my L3200, it showed a little over on the stick even though I stopped adding new oil at about 1/2 qt shy of the amount called for. But given the angle of the dipstick, it would only have been about 1/16" over in a level sense, and that's not a whole lot. On top of that, with two separate sump areas it's hard to know what/where the dipstick is reading. I mean to go re-read my dipstick now that the engine has been run a few more hours to see if it evened out eventually. I suspect so. May even want a little top off.

I'd only really worry if you were way over, like accidentally adding too much (known for sure). Then you'd want to drain some out before running the engine, otherwise it could foam up and really make a mess and perhaps cause damage.

Maybe I am doing too much assuming.

But the oil capacity on that tractor is 7.1qts. I am "assuming" he bought 2 gallons and used it all. If that is the case, I wouldnt worry. You have to be quite a bit overfull before foaming is an issue.

Also a note, if you have not started the tractor yet, and are showing just a bit over full, start the tractor to fill the oil filter, then re-check
