I discovered that on my own too.. There is nothing better to sharpen a mower blade with in my opinion. Beats the heck out of a bench grinder.

I almost never use a bench grinder anymore.

Also almost never use a regular grinder disc either unless using the "End" like grinding out a crack or weld. Always try and use some type of flapper if I can.

How do they work on removing rust and old paint? About to refinish a FEL Bucket.

Will probably work, but likely load up like any other flapper.

Get something actually made for paint. Just search paint stripping disc.

Yeah I am now a big fan of flapper discs and continue to stock up when I come across a good deal.

Paint and rust, no problem, in my experience. You run into issues with any abrasive when you are trying to remove lots of millscale, as that is super hard stuff. Now if you are dealing with really heavy paint, you might want to abrade that away with a wire wheel first or it might clog up an abrasive disc, but I wouldn't worry about it for regular stuff.

Good advice on the grinder grease. Never thought of it either and I have the same 18 volt grinder as the op. It also seams to be noisy now.

Will have to look into those scotchbrite things. I always used a braided wire wheel they don't seem to come apart as bad as the straight wire ones.
