A favor to your angle grinder

You want to do a real favor for your angle grinder? Try this stuff. I have a friend that works in the group at 3M and he gave me a few extras they had sitting around in the test lab. He told me how awesome it was, but there was nothing like the first trial to go "HOLY CRAP!" This stuff is amazing. I was grinding away at my snow plow build with a regular flap disc. I figured I wasn't getting a lot of progress, even though it still had a lot of life left, so I put one of these on for giggles. I was grinding away for 20 min before. I finished in like 2 min. It went through metal like something really witty that I cannot think of to put here. Insane stuff.

Does it last 4x longer to make up for the price difference?

Maybe I'm just a splurge but for no more than a new one costs I'll just buy another if it quits, good for the economy too lol

I can't say for sure it lasts 4x longer, but it sure will last a lot longer, as it cuts through metal like nothing I have seen, so you will finish faster (and it's not like it wore away to nothing doing that - wear was nothing unusual for use time). Less time should equal less wear. Plus if you are looking at the 3M list price, you should be able to find much better pricing than that (I found $4-7/disc depending on grit with a quick amazon search 3M Cubitron II Flap Disc 967A, Type 27 (Multiple Grades/Sizes): Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific). Of course, I got mine for free, so it is hard for me to judge cost

My friend told me their sales reps would show up at big accounts with a couple discs and tell the guys to "go try them. I'll wait in the lobby." They would come back in 10 min with eyes as wide as saucers drooling over these things. Instant sale. I thought he was BS'ing me too, until I tried them. I figured they were for sure better in lab tests but maybe not noticeable in use. Seeing is believing. I was stunned.

Around here, (LOWES) sells Dewalt flap disc for around $10 also. I wish I could find them for $2.50 each. It seems all abrasive products have sky high pricing including the el cheapo quality ones from HF.

Luckily I have a friend that gave me a good supply of flap wheels and Norton 9" "Pipeliner" grinder blades. I don't think I will ever run out of 9" blades but I use the flap discs a lot sharpening my and neighbors mower blades. They work just as fast as grinder disc and don't heat the metal as much plus leave a smooth finish.

Agree!
I have 2 grinders (Makita)that I got 12-15 years ago that get used a lot.
Compressed air and periodical grease management is what prolongs their life.

A buddy who simply does not understand maintenance burns up about 6-7 a year.

I discovered that on my own too.. There is nothing better to sharpen a mower blade with in my opinion. Beats the heck out of a bench grinder.

How do they work on removing rust and old paint? About to refinish a FEL Bucket.
