Power Trac PT425 2001 Model Year
Figured I'd start a thread for heaters for the PowerTrac folks, since its being discussed so much this time of year. Post your suggestions/solutions/questions...

Why do Kohler engines start easier in colder temps than Subaru's? Any idea what is different?

No. Could be lots of things....
Could be they have a stronger starter motor.
Could be they might have lower compression.
Carbs could be different.
Hotter or colder spark plugs.
Stronger or weaker spark.
Don't know the displacement of each engine, but one could have more torque than the other, which would strain the starter, too, I would think.
Just a whole slew of issues to compare....

PT did a lot of testing on various kits. They use a 250 watt "pad" kit now from Kats. The magnetic heaters do not work as well.

PT is a very small company and I suggest we consider buying the kit from them. Yes, it may cost more but we need to keep them in business. Trust me...they're not making a fortune over there.

I spoke to Terry at PT and he referred me to the internet to buy that heater, so unless you are ordering other items(like attachments @ 15% off right now!) maybe they would just assume we go the the internet?

When I called Terry, he gave me the part# and said you should be able to find it on the internet.

I'm a little concerned also, about the future of power-trac / lo-trac companies, what with the war on coal that's going on. Makes me wonder if I should replace my aging 1430. Than again, I'm aging also so maybe I won't need to.

I would not be concerned with PT and their future, outside of the family loosing interest in the business and selling bits off. They do well for what they are, which is a niche market company. I researched them a bit and with the three companies combined they pull in 70mil plus a year (And I think much more).

Coal is not going anywhere in our lifetime, I am sure given how much is mined in China. PT might be selling like hotcakes over there and that is not disclosed.

I feel that the company sells what they feel comfortable in selling, that they don't see the need to take a risk and expand. Given the fact they weathered the downturn with no reduced staff speaks volumes for the health of the company. Do I agree with their motivation, not really but hey, its not my company.

One of the problems a person has when developing a business they love is that at some point, they can't do what they love because they are too busy running a business. Maybe they stay small to enjoy themselves.

On the 65 HP deutz diesel, the magnetic heaters certainly helped and the intake heater helps a lot.
