Comparison MF 1758 vs 1759 advice

Eric the Oracle,
Yes talking with Randy in Bemidji, have dealt with them before and they have even driven out to service my stuff way out in the woods. Having a local dealer was very important to me. I am no mechanic and with a 5 year warranty on the MF I can take full advantage of a full service dealer.

Had I purchased the Massey, I would have purchased it from Randy. I've a very heavy background in mechanics, and so dealer support isn't very important to me. Notwithstanding, Randy was the only Massey dealer in Minnesota with his junk together in the quoting process. In the end, due to the layout in the cab I went with a Kioti product.

Disk hoe wise, you'll want to hitch that to your three point, and not use the loader.

I also live in MN. Had a MF 1643 HST, now have a 1749 cab power shuttle and will never go back to the Hydro. Any travel with the hydro, even with the cruise control on, you find yourself resetting the cruise every few miles, just doesn't hold a constant speed. the PS trans is 15 mph (top speed) up hill or down hill. I plow snow, bush hog, plow food plots, box blade, etc. with mine and absolutely love the PS trans.

Everybody now has e-HST and as a result, the HST should be able to maintain an actual mph speed, not an engine speed that varies.

Should.

My HST machine with all four tires loaded cannot maintain speed up any kind of hill—but I'm still a passenger, and the tractor simply slows down then speed back up once power is sufficient to do so. The only time this is a hassle is when I drive into Nevis 3/4" of a mile to gas up and County Road 2 has a long hill leading into the center of town.

The trick with the Massey cruise control is to make sure you have enough RPM's for it to maintain the speed you set. It's not an electric cruise control like some others..at least, not in the 16xx series. It's a lever that basically locks the foot pedal position. If you rely just on the auto throttle, it will bleed off the RPM's and lose speed. But if you manually adjust the RPM's up to PTO speed, the cruise control should maintain.

Why is there a PTO switch right of the steering wheel and then a lever left of the seat that says N-540? I am hoping that I can run a 1758 PTO slower than 540. Many times in a tractor I creep and crawl over obstacles and terrain where I slow the blades down but don't want to fully stop the inertia or implement to a stop and then start it all up again. Is this still possible with a 1758? Didn't understand the PTO lever on left if a yellow button on dash turns it on.

That 4608, 09, 10 is one heck of an upgrade over the 17xx machines, power wise.

One thing we haven't heard is what machine the OP is coming from. I mention that because the 4608 is a size and weight step-up from the 17xx tractors, so if transporting the machine is a concern, then the jump to 46xx might be overkill. Also, no HST option with the 46xx tractors, IF that's a concern as well.
When I was looking at and pricing another tractor a couple months ago, with Equine Savings I could get the 4608 with a loader for the same price as a 1759 with a loader. A 1759 is a pretty darn good tractor, but it's not a 4608.

(I ended up buying a Mack dump truck instead)

Onceacop, I saw that picture of the Terex lifting the pallet of wood. Your 1758 with the DL130 loader should handle that with ease.

My 1643 HST with the DL120 loader lifts some ridiculous weight (wood pallets just like yours, 1,600lb round bales, etc.), so your DL130 should breeze through lifts like that.

I understand how it works and in my opinion it's a pain compared to just being in a gear.

Left of the seat lever disengages the PTO so that it may spin freely. This is helpful when you are trying to line up and attach a PTO shaft on a heavy implement and you can't spin the shaft.

Use the lever only when the PTO is not spinning, otherwise you'll hear gears grind!

On the dash, the yellow switch turns the PTO on and off.

The "soft start" button is real nice too. With it on, you don't need to engage the PTO at low rpm and slowly creep up to 540... It will buffer the start automatically.

I am enjoying the 1758. I have written that they are picky on trans hydro oil. I guess Ago agreed with us and has changed the formulation and went to semi syn. I am running the chevron full syn and am tickled pink with the difference. Good luck with the 1758 and if I can be of help, let me know.
