As long as I can borrow my BIL's JD one week/year for the next couple of years, I'll have all the trenching I need to do completed.

Other than loader work, everything I do is field work. I couldn't justify the cost for the ammount of work it would see. I've been 6 years without a backhoe now and have only had two projects where I could have used it.

A BH is sorta like a FEL.
You don't know how much you can do with one till you get it.

It would be useful for sure...at times. I'm having a hard time envisioning how a backhoe would help me brushhog, hay, plow, till, plant, and spray (which is the majority of what I do) however....

Just read through your post. I had my heart set on the MF GC2310 and ended up with a Kubota BX24 the same way. I wonder if the salesmen even care that they lost a sale. Oh well. I've been pleased with the BX so far. Oh, and the BH is wonderful for hayin'. Didn't you know you could use it for...uh...well....maybe not:D.-Matt

I think you're right, at least about the salesman that we both encountered. Every dealership I visited or talked to in my area said that business was very good, especially on these smaller tractors.

Reminds me of Harley dealers in years past. There was a time when they could sell more motorcycles than they could get. Even to the point of getting above MSRP and adding all kinds of crap to the bike before putting it on the floor. Some even gave out deli numbers to customers - and had that "holier than thou" attitude.

What a difference a few years makes. Now you can get the bike you want in the color you want - at less than MSRP. The dealers who provided good customer service have done well throughout , those with "the attitude" have struggled - and many have changed ownership.

Seems like Business 101.

Good reminder lesson for all of us.

It must be some new sales technique, they won't call you back, so they know the people that call them back really want a tractor. Kind of weeds out all the tire kickers.:)

Ya... I guess...

I would have thought that they were somewhat convinced when I took a day off from work to meet with them because I knew their Saturdays are always crazy-busy (which I told them when I first visited them).
