Funny how kind you are moss. You didn't say abuse once in the sentence.

Yeah.. I do like to do all of my own work if I can. I don't have the tools to properly straighten but I could get it flatter according to my neighbor. Now he said the magic words "Proper Tools" and a nice hydraulic press would be a welcome addition, altough I no longer have any space for tools.

But, deal is done. I have my current movie wrapping up and it is a cursed movie (Well, the management is cursed, the movie itself will either be a smashing hit like Porkies or Animal House) or be in the dark recesses of your netflix account. On top of i I have three new films in the hopper, trying to make the one that will make me money go first but you never can tell in Hollywood. Basically I am just slammed, and we have planted another 10 fruit trees (Need to put cages around them) and I have 4 massive burn piles, and I have 2 60"+ DIameter Maple Trees that fell in the wind storm that need to be cut up for neighbors to use as firewood. Ugh... Love it but Ugh...

Well got an ugly surprise today.

Got the QA, stripped my old on off and was putting the new one on. Found out that the locking tabs were bent as well. Such a friggin PITA. Banged them around with a sledge but not great. I think I need to order new ones or maybe use my fancy plasma cutter and make my own. Summer project for sure.

Oh, pictures to come.

The tabs move with the QA cylinder, correct? Man, the power of hydraulics is pretty impressive. I remember I had no problem bending my forks with the hydraulics on my little PT425. They just don't care what's in their way!

Can you get enough heat on them with a MAPP torch, or one of those HF ice melting torches? If not, you could give your local farrier a call. They'd fit in the standard horseshoe kiln. Get them red hot, hammer them into planarity on the anvil. Toss them back in the kiln, get them red hot, and then drop them into a metal buck of cold water, one at a time. Wire brush, repaint, and you should be good.

Or make yourself a kiln with a propane torch from HF, and some firebrick or fiber insulation.

Just a thought...

All the best,

Peter

I used a 20-ton press to flatten my first bent QA plate. Now, I have another that needs the same treatment..

So I have an oxy acet that I could warm this all up with. It is not a skill I have really mastered. Also, I think I see crack lines in the metal. The tabs themselves are pretty worn out so this isn't a big ask at the end of the day to replace them.

For now it works. And yes, when I have a moment I am going to bend the QA back, but right now I am so friggin busy.

In the 3rd picture, to the left of the red dot in the hole of the level, and just below that, I'd smack that somegun with a sledgehammer a few times and all would be well. No heat needed.
