By the way white smoke on start and rough idle usually means there's air in the fuel injection system. Often this happens after a fuel filter change and the system is not bled completely. That was my first thought, either not bled properly or an air leak from the filter not installed properly.

How do you advise changing the fuel filter and bleeding properly? I replaced my filter a while back and hope I did it correctly?

Well on my Ford there's a bleed nut on top of the injector pump. Crack it loose until a little fuel comes out, tighten and start. It will still smoke a little while the remaining air gets worked out. Your owners manual should tell you how to do your B7800.

Sounds normal to me too, do you have a block heater, if you do, plug her in for an hour or two when it cold, you should see a difference.

No block heater unfortunately, cycling the glow plugs 2 or more times does help the problem. It still runs rough for the first 2 or 3 seconds then clears up. I guess that I will check all fittings and if I find nothing will wait until warm weather to see if it goes away. I never see any white smoke when starting up.

If you are being literal about 2 or 3 seconds time and it then clears up I don't see a problem. A cold diesel engine is more difficult to start than a gas engine in most cases, I would expect that it would take a few seconds to smooth out. Longer times when it is colder and without a block heater in very low temperatures may not start at all.
